Prologue

I always admired how the moon and stars would shine so bright. How they gave people more hope and grace than a single person could. Even when they would lose light and evetionally die out in space.

Sometimes, we see how the stars and the moon fall into the lightness of morning. We see that the prettiest things come out into the darkness of night. Saying, and seeing the living proof of beauty in the darkness. However we can also fear the blackness or love the blackness. Or both. Somehow that's just what I happened to do.

Fearing it for the hopefulness of light being able to fall, for it to lose to it's dark brother. For the light to just give up on us, to just one day decide that we will never be good enough.

Loving the blackness of night, and hoping for the catch, of affection. For the love of giving up to the feeling of pain and darkness.

Stars and moons give the light to the darkness of pain. They show how somehow light is still in the blackness. Giving those who wish to give up, peace and hopefulness.

River Black just so happened to illuminate part of the darkness. He was the moon among all of the little stars. Giving new hope to many hopeless souls, though they never understood how they were shown the light at the end of the darkness.

River never seemed to show kindness or that he so much as cared for the dirt on the bottom of his shoe. Cold -hearted, many took him to be. Said he never showed any character. Only caring about whether his lighter and cigarettes were in his pocket.

He only seemed to care about the scuffs on his boots. Or the scratches on his car. Whether or not to skip class and drink or to stay and sleep. For he may never get to in the future. It seemed to many that one day he'd decide to give up on opening his eyes, or making sure his chest went up and down everyday. They seemed to think he smoked and wished for the smoke to be too much one day and his lungs would just give out. Not many saw how the depression of life was taking him over. Like he swam into the deep end and couldn't swim back.

Everyone seemed to miss that sad darkness in his eyes. The way darkness would consume the person inside of you. He was like the sky without the moon, he couldn't seem to see happiness in the light.

Like it was just blackness. No beauty, or light. Just a blank sheet of black ink.

But, he wasn't alone in the race to death. For Allison Grey, was just as black on the inside as he was. But, no one knew that she hurt so badly on the inside and out.

Her fake smile and fake happy filled eyes gave everyone a different picture. Maybe I was the only one to recognize the painfulness in everything she did. How her cracked lips were so badly bruised, and how the smile was cut at four different places.

Allison was always way to kind for her own good. Giving too much love to the half burned worm on the sidewalk. Or victims be free from the tormentors at our school. Saving dying flowers from no soil. She did it all.

Only no one did it for her. The victims would scurry away without a word to the kind up stander. The worm just enjoying the burns not wanting help. And flowers withering away in horror.

Watching this all happen was worse. Watching the lonely star and broken moon. Watching it through eyes of so much love and softness.

But never seeing it much myself.

My name is Allison Grey and, River Black just so happened to be my first love.

The moon and stars. In the same sky, but never do they collide. Or... maybe they do.
