Chapter 25

Chapter 25:

Months passed; my relationship with Matthew got stronger. Merrick adored him and that was all I could really ask for. Merrick needed a good father figure in his life, and Matthew was a great guy. 

Nash's trial was coming up and I felt obligated to go. I was conflicted though. Part of me didn't want Nash to be found guilty because he helped me escape from Tommy and he killed Nate before Nate could hurt me and my loved ones. But the other part of me hoped he was found guilty because I was still holding a grudge against him for killing Kim.

"Mommy, can we go to the park?" I heard Merrick's voice come from behind me. 

I looked at the little boy and smiled. "Of course. You go find Daddy and I'll meet you downstairs."

Merrick laughed and ran to find Matthew. I walked into my closet and searched for an outfit to wear. 

"Sam, I don't think this is a good idea," Scott came into my room just as I finished getting dressed.

"Scotty, you know I love you, but Tommy hasn't been seen in months. I doubt he'll make an appearance now. My son wants to go to the park, so I'm taking him to the park. He's a little kid, Scott, and he deserves to have some sort of childhood," I looked at my cousin.

Scott sighed. "Please, just be careful."

"You know I always am," I kissed his cheek. "Now, calm down a little."

I ran downstairs and walked straight into the last remaining members of our crew. Seth, Jon, Phil, Becca, and Lottie all grinned and hugged me tightly. Man, I missed them.

"As soon as I get back, we are all sitting down and discussing your trip. I have to go though. I have a little boy and a boyfriend who are sort of impatient," I smiled at them.

I made my way outside and looked to where Matt was putting Merrick on his shoulders. They were so precious! I took a quick picture on my phone and then headed towards them.

"You boys ready to go?" I asked.

"Park!" Merrick exclaimed.

"I'm taking that as a yes," Matt laughed.

The park wasn't too far away so it was a simple walk. Merrick kept pointing to things as we passed and asked what they were. And oh goodness, you should've seen him when he actually got to the park. Every time we go, it's like a whole new adventure. Merrick sees everything differently than the last time.

"Mommy, can I go to the swings?" he asked.

I nodded. "Want me to push you?"

Merrick thought about it. "How 'bout you and Daddy push me?"

I looked at Matthew and both of us smiled. "I think we can manage that."

Merrick cheered and raced for the swings, Matthew and I following behind slowly, our fingers intertwining. No words could describe how safe Matthew makes me feel. And after Tommy, I didn't think that was going to happen.

"I love you," Matthew spoke up.

I bushed. "I love you too."

"You are so slow! Huwwy up!" Merrick shouted.

I giggled. I loved how he could pronounce one "r" but when you had to say a word that had two, the "r" suddenly turned into a "w." It only made me love him more.

I saw someone out of the corner of my eye and told Matthew to go over and push Merrick first. I knew it was a stupid thing to go see who it was by myself, considering Tommy was still out there, but I was curious. And you know the saying "curiosity killed the cat."

"April?" I was shocked. What on earth was she doing here?

"Samantha, darling, who is that little boy?" she asked; her tone completely fake.

"He's my son," I told her. I wasn't ashamed. I saved Merrick.

April smirked. "Never thought of you as a slut."

"I adopted him. And if anyone is the slut, it's you. I know you're only with my dad because of the money. What are you doing here?" 

"I got a very generous sum of money, among other things, from Thomas. And here I was, not even knowing you were back home. I don't think Thomas is going to very happy knowing that you're cheating on him. That's the whole reason I came to find you. Thomas is very worried," her overly sweet voice made me want to vomit.

"Cut with the nice crap. What does Tommy want?" I demanded.

April rolled her eyes and scoffed. "God, you're stupid. He wants what he's wanted all along...You. Now, I suggest you do what you need to do and say your goodbyes. Here's the address. You have a week before Tommy comes looking for you. And he'll kill whoever is in his way."

"He doesn't scare me," I lied.

"He may not scare you," April began. "But he terrifies me." For the first time she looked vulnerable. "And I know you hate me, Sam. And I know you think I'm using your dad, but I'm not. But I can understand where you're coming from. Stay safe, Sam. I don't think I can see your dad go through any more heartbreak."

With that, she was gone, and I was left more confused than ever. God, and I thought I had major mood swings. I went back over to Merrick and Matthew only to see Merrick sitting by himself.

"Baby, where's Daddy?" I asked, kneeling in front of him.

Merrick shrugged. "I don't know. He went to answer his phone and never came back. He left when you went to go talk to that lady."

I picked Merrick up and made sure he was settled on my hip before looking around for Matthew. I didn't see him, so I decided to head back home and drop Merrick off before going out and looking for Matt. 

Only 20 minutes later, I was back at the park and looking for my boyfriend. If this was some sort of joke I was going to be so ticked off. Matthew knew I did not do well in situations like these. 

I took a few steps forward and something under my foot made a crunching noise. I looked down at a crumpled piece of paper.

Hey babe,

   As you can probably tell, Matthew is no where to be found. You know, it's funny. Matt was one of my most trusted friends and now he's dating my ex-fiance. How does that work? Every day that you're not here, someone you love gets taken. Day 1: Matthew. Is he the new love of your life? The people who go missing the next few days depend on my mood. But on the last day, if you're still not here, then I plan on getting your son. And then I'll start killing all those I kidnapped, and I'll be working backwards; starting with Merrick and ending with Matthew.

A/N: I updated....Sorry it has taken me so long. I feel so bad. But here's a longer update for you and I'lll try updating more. My Christmas break is coming up and then I have two weeks off school.
