S Y R I A

Shedding blood every day,

Young and old dragged into the fray.

Roaring sirens, deafening screams,

In the streets where peace had been.

Another day, a hundred more lives,

Innocent people never to open their eyes.

Show me the sins I have done, so,

I may be able to improve.

Never again have to feel this way,

Never again - I'll start anew.

Everyone here is living a nightmare,

Everyone else doesn't seem to care,

Do you have an ounce of humanity?

Offer me freedom, come and save me.

From the war raging all around,

Open the doors to the peace I had found.

Us Syrians don't need much to make us happy,

Real food, clean water and shelter are far from crappy.

Help us, please help us,

Everyone has had enough.

Lives are being lost everyday,

Please, for all we can do is pray.

They paint pictures with our blood on the street,

But still in our hearts, some hope we keep.

That maybe today or tomorrow, you'll donate,

And once and for all, change our wretched fate,

A/N

So recently, there was a charity evening at my school to raise money and awareness for the ongoing conflict in Syria. I was asked to write and perform a poem for it and here it is. I am not Syrian but it is from the point of view of a Syrian sufferer. I hope this raises awareness, not only of the effect of war and conflict in Syria, but everywhere.
