Prologue
The village of Freyedge was strategically placed in the shadows of the Eskelon mountain range on Gyaros Island, the Island famous for its vast amount of nature; sheer cliffs, lush marshlands, swamps concealed in early morning mist and pure rivers and lakes were to name a few of the natural structures covering the vast landscapes. Freyedge village was just 57 kilometres away from Urgulet Lake; their source of water and 634 kilometres away from the City of Jurad; homeland of the seekers and where the Council of Lords ruled over the isles of Domov.
The small village of Freyedge once was home to the well-known seeker Von Sorenson, who brought new remedies of wonder, spells more glorious then you could ever know and peace between a ridged and stressful relationship. His life’s work is told in the Old Scribes of Bane. But this short tale was before his fame, when he was a young boy called Cenric Buckley.
He was born on 27th day of the Month of June on the full Yellow moon. His mother Eva died in labour which was common in those days and Hereweald his father disappeared into the dark forest three weeks before Cenrics third birthday. That left him parentless and sent to live with his reclusive uncle who made the excuse up of ploughing the endless fields of grain to avoid spending time with the young boy. Because of the way he had been brought up ‘Ric; the nickname he was given by the townsfolk, grew up to be a reckless boy always wanting to leave the mundane village and ponder around the surrounding landscapes and maybe with luck leave and head east to the city of Jurad. His neighbours saw him as crazy; no one had even spoken of the idea before. So whilst he was growing up people tried to get the ludicrous ideas out of his head telling him what he should grow up to be, a farmer just like his uncle, and refused to teach him anything to the outside world. ‘Ric resented this and just grew more short tempered and reckless.
By the age of fifteen he had given into the pleas of the townsfolk and found some work on the large farm, cleaning the stables, but his dreams were still in his head, showering over in his endless dreams of escape and freedom. In three years he would be a man able to make his own decisions, in which he had grown truly desperate for in his dull years of growing up.
But the chance to escape came sooner than expected, nine months in his sixteenth year, when news came of unnamed groups of bandits making their way towards Freyedge. They had no time to forge steel weapons of swords and daggers. They could only use what the farming village had pitchforks, wooden spears and other weak tools which would defiantly not protect them from the mayhem that was to occur.
The bandits attacked the village within three days of the news, starting by lighting the small church into flames awakening the sleep deprived, and frightened villagers who were armed with what they could make out of scraps. One by one each straw roofed house was burned to a crisp until they were gone, men of the village charged at the enemy never giving in until they were killed or gravely injured. Women fled into the forest and hedgerow, carrying infants and holding the hands of their children hoping to hide out until the grizzly fight was over but the plan failed within hours they were found, raped and killed and their children burned. The people that were lucky to survive weren’t really that lucky and were to be taken into slavery. But ‘Ric had sneakily made his way out of the village beforehand, carrying a loaded rucksack on of his shoulder and his overused map and trusty compass were held in his hands, he wasn’t particularly fond of leaving the town that he grew to end in the gruesome way it did but there was nothing he could do, he had to ignore the horrific sounds and make his way to the future. To find out what his fate was.
