The Lost Village

Prologue

A small child sat before a large alter her head bent in prayer. She wore vibrant colored silk, her long snow white hair was braided back in two long braids, and each end was tied with a long gold ring. Above her loomed a large stone statue that was shaped into a fox with no tail. The shrine itself was dim, the wooden planks on the floor where weak ready to break under the slightest pressure, beams of moonlight poured inside through the large holes in the roof which provided enough light for the girls face to be outlined in the darkness. Long ago this very shrine flourished with a small yet strong village to look over and protect it, yet all too soon the small village full of rich history and powerful ancient Justus was trampled by the very god they had prayed to.

The fox demon, although it was a demon and they had killed the girls family she had never known, along with the village, she felt no hate. The reason being she was tied to one of them, the powerful god had separated itself into nine beings, and one of them was linked to her by blood, the nine tailed fox. Because of this some of its power leaked into her body, this gave her the power of foreseeing what was to come in the future. She along with a handful of elderly monks who guarded the temple had survived. When the nine tails was sealed away, the hokage of another village tried to seal it away in a child, the power was too much so they poured the remainder of its power into her. Since she received the ability to foresee the future she was held as a goddess by the older monks the five of them praised her along with the nine tailed fox.

"Yuki-hime-sama." The shaky voice of the eldest monk, Yamamoto, tried to break into her deep meditation of the future.

Yuki remained silent, she made no motion to indicate that she had heard him speak.

"The others have talked and they've decided it's time for you to leave the temple. Time for you to meet your other piece." Yamamoto continued aware of the young girl's silent and allusive nature

"Hai, Yamamoto-san." Her soft voice responded, yet still she did not move her eyes remained closed as she clasped her hand in front of her face.

The time had already come for her to meet the holder of the nine tails, a fragment of the nine tails was left in her body and she held the more dormant and gentle piece of the fox. Soon she would have to give the fragment back to the rightful owner. Though she could see the future the monks had instructed her that she was a fragment that belonged to the other child that possessed the demon.

"Yuki-hime-sama." Another voice spoke, this one more gruff than the other.

"Hai, Hunamuri-san." Yuki opened her eyes and stood, she turned to stare at the stricter head monk with her cold emotionless frosted blue eyes. "I shall depart to the leaf village tonight."

They both nodded their heads.

"Come, Yuki-hime-sama." Yamamoto bowed before he walked out of the shrine.

Yuki followed him with her slow even pace that never changed.

"Don't forget you are a fragment of the nine tails." Hanumari reminded her before she left.

Her steps didn't falter but her emotionless gaze met his as she passed him for a heartbeat before she turned her eyes away and looked straight ahead. She knew already what she was. A fragment of the fox god of this old vanished village, she was nothing more than an instrument that moved to protect the child that stored it.

Easily she reached where Yamamoto was. He stood with a small backpack in his hands along with a scroll in hand.

"This shall provide you with your necessities. And this scroll must be given to the hokage by you personally. If the guards stop you just show them the crescent on the scroll of the village." He explained as he handed the bag to her.

Yuki looped her arms through the straps and settled the backpack against her back. She slipped she scroll into the small pouch that was tied around her waist. She turned ready to leave when the feel of cool metal around her neck stopped her.

"Keep this close to you. Do not let the voices of others stray you from your own path." Yamamoto smiled feebly, the wrinkles around his shaggy white brows and long white beard creased together.

"I will complete my role as a fragment." She nodded softly.

The old monks smile faltered, his old eyes saddened. "I pray for you, Yuki-hime-sama." He bowed low.

She nodded as she studied the air of sadness that laid in his weary eyes. She knew not why he was so upset, feelings were not something she had been taught. She grew up with expectations, a goal that the monks had set up for her, never had she interacted with others let alone children her own age, she knew not of kindness, the gentle warmth of a loving parent, or the warmth of a friend. But she felt no remorse for never experiencing it, since she knew nothing of that sort of kindness.

"I'll be off." She left the temple and descended the never ending mountain stairs.

"May the sun and moon guide you." Yamamoto said under his breath using the old village's saying as a blessing.

Yuki continued down the stairs in the direction of the hidden leaf village, and not once did she look back.
