Twelve:
I woke up to my phone buzzing on my stomach. I flung my eyes open and picked it up, pulling my earphones out. I guess my music paused itself. I checked the text message I got.
Hey, am I the only one who realized Andy got a girlfriend? it was a text from Marsha. I sighed and pulled my bangs out of my face and answered her.
No, I knew, I sent. She replied almost instantly.
Oh. Oops I didn't know. See u later today? she sent. I rubbed my eyes.
Yeah.
I threw my phone over and just laid there, staring at the ceiling. I didn't want to go to school today. Also the fact that Marsha had gotten me up at three thirty in the morning and now I couldn't fall asleep. I rubbed my eyes and pulled my bangs back down, burying my face in my pillow.
I eventually got out of my bed and got dressed. I would have fallen back asleep after being woken up, but like I said, I couldn't. My phone buzzed in my back pocket. I stopped and pulled it out, looking at the text from Andy.
Are u up yet ..?
I typed a message back.
Yah. Y?
Can I come over? I'll drive u to school afterwards
sure
I checked the time. Four o clock. What the hell why was I up so early? ... And why was Andy up so early ...? I shook my head and then turned my attention back to my bowl of fruit loops. About ten minuets later, I heard a knock on the front door. I opened it to find Andy leaning against the door frame, with his hood up. It was raining outside. I gestured for him to come in.
"Hey," I said. He just nodded.
"Why did you come over so early?" I asked, rubbing my eyes. I wasn't planning on putting on any eyeliner today. He just shrugged.
"I don't know," he replied. I took another bite of the fruit loops. I was standing with the bowl in my hand.
"So, how'd your date go? You never really answered me," I said accusingly. He didn't notice.
"It was awesome. She kissed me after dinner ..." he trailed off. It felt like a fruit loop had gotten stuck in my throat when he said that. I don't know why, though. I didn't like him that way .. did I?
"Well, that's nice," I said, mostly talking to my cereal. I kinda expected my cereal to say something back.
"Yeah.." I heard someone say. I looked wide eyed at my cereal.
"Did you say that?" I asked. Andy looked confused then realized what I meant. He laughed.
"I did, not your cereal," he laughed.
"Ugh. And I was so excited too," I said, putting my cereal on the counter. "I thought I had just discovered talking cereal in my pantry."
He laughed and took a seat on the couch. I tossed him an apple, then sat on the arm chair across from him.
"Alright, man, spill. What happened last night?" I asked, leaning over in my chair, my elbows on my knees. He looked away.
"Why so interested?" he asked jokingly while still looking away. I threw a pillow at him.
"You told me she kissed you'" I reminded him. He sighed and looked at me.
"We went to that fancy-ass restaurant, and I don't even know, man. She ordered my food. I mean, I didn't care. I couldn't pronounce half the names of the food on there. Then I drove her home ... and before she got out she gave me this sudden and really dramatic kiss. But ... I think I liked it," he trailed off in a dreamy state. I couldn't ignore the almost sad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
