When the bell rang I gathered my things and I tried to catch up to Cole to continue our conversation. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Camille latched on to him. They were walking together and her entire demeanor screamed possessive. No wonder she was giving me death looks throughout the entire class period.
"That's Cole Devereux." Stella said next to me scaring the living hell out of me.
"Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" I practically shouted at her.
Stella looked amused and raised a brow. I tried to calm my beating heart. We continued to stare at Camille and Cole as they caught up with Freya and the others. There were about only seven of them in the group.
"Sorry, I called your name and thought you heard me."
"It's ok." I sighed. "So what's up with the little group?"
Stella took my class schedule from my hand and steered me in the opposite direction. I took one last glance over my shoulder and caught Cole staring at me. Our eyes met for a brief moment before I quickly looked away and concentrated on Stella.
"They all grew up together. They've had their own little circle of friends since the age of eight. As much as Camille would like to be in charge of their little circle, Freya runs it. You should be safe since she's your cousin and all but it seems like it won't do you much good from what I saw this morning."
"Freya and Camille don't scare me." I said.
"They should. They're enough to frighten me. I think I've had nightmares of them." She shuddered just to be dramatic.
I laughed. "Were you friends with them?"
"Once I thought we were but then Camille had everyone turn their backs on me. I was shunned. It didn't help that we did something really bad and the... grownups found out."
I was surprised hearing she hung out with that group. She didn't look like she belonged or like she could do something bad. I hesitated on asking her why they kicked her out of the group and why on earth would she want to belong with them if they were so awful.
"What did you do?"
"Maybe I'll tell you some other time." She said. "We're going to be late to class."
I was thankful that I had Stella in my next class. We didn't sit next to each other but having someone I knew in class made it more bearable. I didn't pay much attention during history. I was too busy thinking about what Stella could be hiding. It clearly bothered her.
The hours were dragging on until it was finally time for lunch. I tried looking for Stella but I couldn't find her. I was in line waiting to grab my lunch. Only three more classes and I would have freedom. School didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would.
"How's your day going?"
Again I couldn't help but jump from hearing someone standing so close to me. I turned around and narrowed my eyes at Cole. I was deep in thought that I didn't notice him creeping up next to me.
"What's with you people and sneaking up on me?"
"I just wanted to see how you were doing?" His expression was amused.
"I'm fine." I said moodily.
We moved along in line as I grabbed a tray and started getting only small things. I didn't have much of an appetite. My stomach had been in knots all day even though I was breezing through my first day.
"You don't seem just fine."
"Are you going to explain to me what you said in class? You said that-"
