Its official. I am broke. All that money I saved up over the years gone. I sat on the sofa in Sophie and mines small apartment, staring at the few dollars lying on the table. The last few dollars that I had. When Sophie and I turned 21, we decided it was time to move out of our homes with our parents and see what the world really had to offer.
We have been best friends since high school and agreed that when we were older that we would live together. So, we finally did it but, we didn't know how hard it was going to be with paying rent and other bills.
We both had been saving money for years but most of it went on decorating the apartment, shopping and ordering food. Sophie found a job in a nice diner, which helped her pay her half of the rent.Unfortunately, I have not been so lucky in finding a job.
So, here I am sitting contemplating what I am going to do. I can't ask my parents as i told them i could do this when they weren't so fond of the idea of me and Sophie living in an apartment ourselves.
All i know is if i can't get the money or find a job quick i will be forced to go and live with my parents and show them how much of a failure i am.
I sat and went over my options, i could ask Sophie to pay my half but, she already paid last months for me and she hardly has the money as it is. I could get a loan, although it sounds good i would have to pay it back and i could owe more if i don't pay it back in time.
I could become a prostitute.
No. That's not going to work either.
I give up.
After sitting on the couch for another hour i get up and start cooking dinner as i know Sophie will be in from work soon. hmm...
Guess its mac and chees for dinner.
" Oh, what is that delicious smell" I hear Sophie say as she enter the apartment. She is in her uniform and looks completely drained from her shift.
" That would be Emily's all so famous mac and cheese." I say as i start to put the dinner onto plates. She takes a seat at the small table we have occupying the kitchen and digs in.
"Yummy." She says while stuffing her face. While eating she tells me about all the crazy stories of the day you would be surprised at the amount of unusual and plain right hilarious things that happen in a diner.
"Oh, i picked up the newspaper so you could have look at the job section." I look at the paper and take it from her hand with a small thanks.
" Don't worry you will find a job babes, Just need to look for the right one." Easy for you to say was all that i thought,
Later that night, i sat in bed circling a few job ads that appealed to me. After successfully circling a good few jobs i turned the light off and got under the covers preparing myself for tomorrow. Job hunting is no fun.
I had been to 7 different places already and have still not found a job. I seriously think this world was not made for me.
I dressed up nicely and even put on my good heels for this and now all i have is a headache and sore feet from all the walking around. I seriously needed to get a car.
I look down at the paper in my hand and see where is next on the list to go. ' The Red Lux ' . Now this doesn't seem so bad looking for hostesses and waitresses, maybe this will be a good one.
When i arrive at The Red Lux the place is closed, i tryed to look in the windows but they were tinted so i couldn't really see. I walked round the building and saw there was a side door opened.
I took a deep breath before walking in. As i wondered around which i guessed was the main area i called out to see if anyone was here. When no one was i took out my resume and decided to write a note saying i am looking for a job and leave it there. Just as i was about to out it on the counter a deep voice startled me.
"What are you doing !?"
I turned round to me met with a small guy carrying a box of what i am assuming was alcohol.
"Hi, i'm sorry for just barging in like this i looked around for someone, but couldn't find anyone. I am here about the ad for a job as a hostess/waitress. I was just going to leave my resume."
While i was talking he had walked round the bar and behind the counter.
"Trust me sweetheart you don't want a job here." I looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Just how do you come to that conclusion. You don't know me or what i am capable of." i said with a bit of sass.
"Girls like you don't fit in here. Do you even know what this place is ?" he asked looking me up and down.
"Well this is a club. I believe i would do a fine job here actually i am very good at entertaining and i have waitressed before." Ok. Maybe that was a lie but hey i really need a job.
He looked at me for what felt like minutes, then he shook his head.
" If you think you can handle it fine. Come tonight i will have a uniform ready for you and you can start a trial shift." he said almost reluctantly.
"Oh thank you so much. Do you need to take measurments for the uniform or anything?"
" Trust me sweetheart i know your size. But come by about 6, you have a few forms to sign and i'll have to get one of the girls to show you the ropes." He said.
"Ok. Thank you. Oh i am Emily by the way."
"Freddy" He said while looking through the box.
After a quick goodbye and thank you i made my way out of the building and headed home.
My luck may be changing.
