It's unexpectedly cold this morning. Rain pouring down on the streets of New York. Black and grey shades into the clouds. Still it is a beautiful scene. The streetlights are burning, cars driving with lights to support their drivers. Everything is washed clean. People are walking with coats and big colourful umbrellas are everywhere. Some are grumpy, others with big grins on their faces as if the weather is not affecting them at all. Everyone is rushing to work, bumping into each other. The traffic is insane and the people are losing their minds.
I gaze out of the window not noticing that the car has come to a stop. I am thinking about how I adore the rain. The smell just before the first drizzles, the way it calms you at night when you fall asleep. It's almost magical.
I watch drop after drop chasing each other down the window. They move too hasty for me to keep up so I stop trying. Deeply lost in my thoughts, a familiar voice brings me back to reality.
"Ma'am... MA 'AM !" I jump " We have arrived."
It is my driver, well actually my dad's driver. My dad hired him when I was 6 and he has been with us ever since. An old man I have come to love dearly, always wearing a red tie, I have never seen him wear any other colour tie since he became part of the family.
I look up at a grinning face holding his hand out to me.
"Thank you Larry, would you please remind mom about our breakfast date tomorrow, you now how she forgets."
"Of course ma'am" he says and I can see the humour in his eyes.
"How many times do I have to tell you, you don't have to call me ma'am"
"Yes ma'am"
"Larry!" I scold him with my eyes.
"Goodbye now. Have a nice day madam" and now it's madam.
"Ugh! Goodbye Larry " oh you stubborn little man.
He will never call me on my name. Not even when I was a little girl did he call me anything other than ma'am.
I look up at the glass building standing in front of me. Rosewood International, my father's pride and joy. He is the biggest most known business man in America, practically known all over the world as Mr. John Rosewood. His work means everything to him and he has his heart on me taking over the business when he is gone since my brother got married and moved to LA.
He did not want to work for my dad or have anything to do with the business and my dad wouldn't stop pushing so he moved. I guess he thought it was the easiest way to get my father off his back. Ever since that day not one of them has made contact with each other and I don't know if they ever will. Now my dad wants me to one day be the CEO of the company. That is part of the reason why he is not only my father but my boss as well.As I walk in I am greeted by friendly smiles. I am on my way to the elevator when I see Jessie, my personal assistant, rushing towards me. She is running, signing me to stop. Why is she in such a hurry?
"What are you doing here?!" she is almost screaming
"Jess, what are you talking about? I work here"
"No. Why aren't you in the meeting?!" there is a meeting? How can I not know about this?
"Meeting?!"
"Yes!!! Go go go go , they are waiting just for you"
"WHAT?"
"GO!" she is dragging me out of the elevator and pushing me into the direction of the boardroom, literally.
What meeting? I never miss a meeting. I rush to the boardroom as quickly as I can and find everyone waiting for me. With all eyes on me I apologise for being late and take my seat. My father is looking right through me and I can just almost imagine what he is thinking.
