Heart racing, I step onto the campus with Ivory. She looked gorgeous as she glances around. I probably looked horrible with my hair into a messy bun. Ivory said it looked fine. But fine to her, is horrible. Before walking any further, I take my hair down and in my fingers through it. Ivory let's out a sigh.
"Thank God!" She laughs, fixing her own hair. "You looked horrible"
"Thanks," I chuckle. I pull her into a tight hug. "Be careful Iv, okay?"
Ivory nods and pulls away from the hug. "You too. I love you!" She said.
"I love you too!" I call out to her as she walks away.
Trying to calm my nerves, I walk towards my dorm. 312. Stopping at my door, I take a deep breath, wanting to run home. I step inside and see a blonde pulling a cover over her mattress. I clear my throat, trying to get her attention. She spins around, clearly stunned.
"Oh hello. I'm Pricilla!" She introduces herself. She holds out her hand and I gladly take it.
"Mallory," I say.
"Pretty," Pricilla replies, helping me with my bags.
"Thanks! Umm, so where are you from?" I ask, trying to make conversation.
"Florida. Oh hey, there is this huge party at my brother's, Bryce!" Pricilla explains, running her fingers through her blonde hair. Her bright blue eyes connect with mine.
"Would you like to come with me? I need a friend there."
"Uh, yeah. That sounds like a lot of fun actually. But... can you help me unpack?" I ask, looking around at my ten cases. Pricilla laughs and and nods. We start to unpack and hang pictures and posters. Mostly of Lukas James and my friend who became famous.
"So, what's your brother like?" I ask, pulling out my teal laptop.
"Well... he looks like me, so he's obviously gorgeous," Pricilla jokes. I laugh as I place my pictures on my desk.
"And I'm older than him by one minute. We're twins. But trust me, we look nothing alike. He is very kind a light hearted. He plays football and all the girls are all over him, but he wants to find a girl who will actually love him. He is such an eater. Even though he gains like no weight," Pricilla explains. She turns to me. "What about you? Do you have any siblings?"
"Uh... yeah. Her name is Ivory. Her dad married my mom. She is very kind also. And I love her to death. She loves to write and we basically have everything in common," I explain, placing clothes into my side of the closet.
"Awe sounds awesome. Can't wait to meet her. Should we get ready? It starts in about an hour," Pricilla says. I nod and she examines my closet and shrieks. She pulls out a teal shirt and very skinny black shorts. She smiles and throws the clothes at me. Chuckling, I strip and begin to put my clothes on.
"How do I look?" I ask, flipping my hair. Pricilla nods in approval, then places her hands on her hips.
"You look hot!" I wink at her.
She was wearing a tight red shirt and tight shorts. She likes tight things I'm guessing.
"Thanks girlie. Shall we go?" She asks.
"Yeah!" I say excitedly .
We exit our dorm and Pricilla leads me to Bryce's dorm. Lights were lit as music blasted through the speaker outside and also inside. Smiling, Pricilla grabs my by the hand and pulls me inside. As we step inside, eyes land on us, mostly guys. My cheeks flush as I spot a boy walking towards us. His blue eyes meet with mine as he smiles.
"Hey Pricilla. Who's your friend?" His deep voice asks.
"Mallory, this is Bryce. Bryce, this is my roommate, Mallory!" Pricilla smiles, hugging Bryce. Bryce smiles and gives me a small wave.
"Hi. Nice to meet you," He says.
"You too! This place looks.... whoa.." I say, not taking my eyes off of his gorgeous face.
"Thank you Love," He chuckles. He calls people love too?! Hehe...
"Bryce, can you show Mal around. I need to find Caleb. He owes me twenty dollars for not asking out Bella," Pricilla laughs as she walks off, not leaving Bryce a choice. I follow Bryce around as he leads me around the house. We stop inside of his room.
"Whoa...." I gasp as I examine his large room.
"You like?" He asks.
"Uhhh.... yes! This place is massive!" I giggle. When I look up, I see Bryce admiring me. Blushing, I bite my lower lip.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I ask.
"Because.... you seem different from any other girl," Bryce replies, smiling widely.
"Maybe I am," I say daringly.
"Yeah... I'll figure you out one day," He says happily. Chuckling, he grabs my hand hand and pulls me back down stairs.
"Yo, Justin!" Bryce calls. A blonde looks our way and instantly smiles.
"Hey, who's the girl?" He asks, winking a friendly wink.
"Mallory. Mallory this is my best friend Justin. Justin, this is Mallory. Pricilla's dorm roommate," Bryce explains. Justin smiles and waves.
"You new here too?" Justin asks. I nod.
"Freshman," I reply.
"Awesome!" Justin says, handing me a red cup. I shake my head, not wanting to get drunk.
"Ah. Good girl," Justin smirks. I laugh and nod.
"Yeah!" I say.
"Come on Mallory. I wanna show you the pool!" Bryce laughs. He leads me outside and shows me a huge pool. I gasp and run to it.
"This is awesome!" I shriek. Bryce stands beside me, chuckling.
"Yeah," he smirks and gives me a little push. Screaming, I fall inside with Bryce jumping in beside me.
The water felt cool against my skin. It feels good. It feels like under here, under water, my problems seem to float away like they aren't even there. I can stay down here forever. Maybe if I was a fish.
I push myself back to the surface, gasping for air and laughing. By my side is not only Bryce, but also Pricilla and Justin. They splash each other, including me.
"Hey!" I shriek, letting out a loud laugh. I splash Justin back and he let's out a low chuckle.
"Oh, you shouldn't have done that," Justin wiggles his eyebrows, wrapping his hands around my waste. He throws me up, letting me drop into the water again.
I barely knew these people and yet, they were treating me like family. This is official. I. Love. College. Laughing and trying to catch my breath, I sit on the pool's step. I watch as Pricilla makes her way to me.
"Are you okay?" She asks. I nod and brush my hair out of my face.
"Yeah. I'm just taking a break. Bryce is pretty cool," I reply, ringing the water out of my hair and stepping out.
My clothes were soaking wet. Pricilla steps out of the pool, laughter escaping her lips. She clutches her stomach, still laughing.
"Bryce!" Pricilla calls, as she tries to catch her breath. Bryce looks up at the both of us. His chestnut hair was pushed back and his blue eyes started into mine, causing me to smile.
"Look what you did to Mallory!" Pricilla giggles. Bryce let's out a gasp and puts his hand on his chest, pretending to be sympathetic.
"Oh my..." He smirks, pushing himself out of the pool. "Such a shame." He was close to me now, smiling, showing off his perfect, pearl white teeth.
"Shut up!" I demand jokingly, pushing him back. I turn to Pricilla.
"I'm gonna head back to the dorm."
"Do you need someone to walk you?" Justin asks, ringing out his maroon shirt. I shake my head.
"No. I'll be fine."
"Okay. If you insist," Justin sighs.
I wave to Pricilla and watch as all three of them, Pricilla, Bryce, and Justin jump back into the pool. Chuckling to myself, I step out onto the corridor and feel the cool air against my tan skin. Water drips to the ground as I make my way to the dorm. Not even close to the dorm, I see a green eyed boy, walking by himself. His hands inside his pocket, his head low, staring at the ground. We cross paths.
"Are you okay?" I ask, stopping him. He pauses and pulls the hood from his head, showing his dirty blonde hair.
"Yeah. I'm fine." He says. He examines my whole body. "What happened to you?"
"I was thrown into a pool," I reply, chuckling at the recent memory.
"Sounds cool. Hey.... are you coming from Bryce's party?" He asks. I nod and smile at him.
"Yeah. You going there?" I ask.
"Yeah, but I can walk with you if you need company," He replies.
"Oh, I can't ask you to do that!" I protest, but he was already by my side.
We walk in silence for awhile. All I can hear is the sound water squishing from my shoes and clothes. I turn to the mysterious boy.
"I'm Mallory," I give him a kind smile.
"Caleb. You're that new freshman," He says.
"How'd you know?" I ask.
"Our parents get an email about the whole school. I'm a sophomore," Caleb explains, taking off his jacket. He pulls his jacket over my cold body.
"Thank you," I whisper.
"Keep it," He replies, smiling slyly. I smile as we stop in front of my dorm.
"Thanks for walking me," I say.
"Anytime. Night," He smiles before walking off.
I step into my dorm and pull the jacket off of my body. I find comfortable pajamas, then pull off my shirt and shorts. Changing all my clothing, I sit on my bed. Suddenly, my phone begins to ring, the caller ID saying, "Mom." Anxious, I press answer and bring the phone to my ear.
"Mom!" I basically scream happily.
"Hey honey..." Mom's voice was shaking. I stand up, worried.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I ask.
"Baby girl, John... he and I are getting divorced!" She cried. I gasp as tears spill into my eyes.
"What, Mom why?" I ask.
"He... that doesn't matter. But I just wanted to let you know," Mom replies, sniffling. I clutch my bedsheets as tears fall from my eyes.
"I have to go," I snap.
"Hun-" I cut her off.
"Goodbye Mom."
I hang up. Of course the family is falling apart. That's what happened with Mom and Dad. Nothing ever goes right for me._______________________________________
