One Attempt

I went inside the small van and I waited for the others there. After they packed everything in the back, they joined me inside. We were about 9 people in this "mission" of sorts, whatever you want to call it. The only people I knew were Nathan and Lon, I don't know who are the rest

There were two girls among the six people that I didn't know and one of the two girls was African American and had an uncanny similarity to Hazel, especially with the facial features, but she obviously looked older than her. Because of that, I somehow had the urge to protect her the same way that I look over Hazel, despite that she looks more capable in doing things than me.

We all wore any black apparel that we could find. Shirts, Jackets, Shoes, Jeans and even Gloves, they all had to be black, also those who had hair that was a shade lighter than black had to wear a black hat or beanie.

 After awhile, Nathan started the engine and Kurt opened the gates, then Nathan went on to drive. It was about a two hour drive to the forest that partly surrounded "The Trenchant". So far in my life, I could say that it was the most dull drive in my life. Nobody said a word throughout the whole drive. A blind man would probably think that he was alone if he was with us in the van.

We parked at the edge of the lonely highway. Nathan and Lon who were sitting on the front, turned their seats around to face us. Nathan took a circular device by his side and placed it on the floor then it projected a map of the Trenchant .

"Alright. This is where we start, we'll work our way from the Water Treatment building to the rooftops of the Phase 5 Segment of the Main Building" Nathan said as he pointed from the left outer most part of the building to the left inner part of the octagon shaped building.

"So that's it? We'd get Neil then?" I said in confusion as it seemed so easy

"It seems so easy doesn't it? But it's not. It looks easy because it's just a four-level building, but the real deal is underneath. Everything that it is known for is 1,750 feet underground." He said then he pinched the projection then he expanded it to reveal the long structure hidden underground

I was struck with awe. It had one main and big structure shaped like an acorn but more longer and streamlined then It had branches spiking out, bringing more rooms and those rooms have tunnel connections to one another, making those rooms look like planets orbiting it's star. The complexity of this structure is amazing that someone from the future would still probably say: 

"Is this from the future?"

"When we get to the rooftop, we'll go through the ventilation vents to go deeper into the structure. It'll be a painfully long process as we have to go to the deepest part of the structure where Neil is said to be imprisoned. That part has really high security as that part is supposed to take major terrorists." Nathan said slowly as he stared to the projection

The way he bleakly stared at the projection unnerved and perturbed me, It definitely made me hesitate about what we're going to do. My heart was pounding twice as powerful than normal and I was sweating buckets despite it being about 5°C outside. 

"And to feed you guys more fear, there are rumors that the Eight Faces of Death resides here." Lon said

"What? Who are the Eight Faces of Death?" A man said in a confused manner

"The eight modified androids. They have abilities that were thought to be 'Science Fiction'. They transcend above all. They are rarely set on duty by the authorities, but when they are, it surely means that you're going to die." Lon said

It reminded me of the time that I saw the winged figure the last week. But that's just one of the eight. What other things could the other seven have? I hope we don't find the answer to that question tonight, or ever.

Everyone was silent for awhile. I guess it's hard to accept that we'll all probably die tonight, It's a pretty big thing to swallow. After a few minutes, Nathan turned the car engine off, took the keys and then he took the projector and turned it off

"Let's do this guys, Now or Never." Nathan said audaciously 

We all went out of the car, we took our own bags from the trunk then Nathan and Lon handed us hand guns and two extra full magazines. After Nathan locked the van, we went on to climb over the fence that protected the whole forest and facility. 

We slowly made our way through the forest as not to alarm any of the guards who were patrolling the perimeter. At one point, I nearly tripped from a rock but thankfully I caught myself, but It did made some guards turn their heads.

When we got to the Water Treatment building, Lon gave us some small circular pieces that we were supposed to place on our gloves so that our hands would stick and we wouldn't fall when we climbed. After we got everything done, we started climbing the walls, holding on to the pipes that led to the tanks on top of the Water Treatment building.

When we all got up, we rushed towards the inner building. It wasn't hard going there since we didn't need to climb to the fourth floor since the way to the inner building is inclined, so going from the single-level Water Treatment building to the top of Phase 5 wasn't so hard as it seemed.

When we got there, we waited for awhile since we had to open the vent grills without tripping any alarms. We temporarily disconnected it from the Power Grid then we went on to open the complicated Ventilation system. From there, we had to take out the filters and other stuff before we could crawl through it.

After about half an hour, we finally got everything removed and reassembled, so that no one would notice. We went on to crawl through it. We had to be very careful and slow, as even just a little extra pressure or force upon the ventilation shaft would make a noise. It took us about another hour crawling just to get to the middle of the Phase 5. We got to the shaft where we would have to go down to the 3rd floor, but we have encountered an unprecedented problem.
