Everything was dark at first.
There was no source of light, not a single bit to be found. No voices, no sounds, nothing. It was almost like existence had forgotten its boundaries, forgotten its pace on life itself. Silence, peace, quiet.
His mind was blank. All memories were forgotten ever since he had fell into whatever different dimension that was cast upon him. He didn't have a sense of direction or a train of thought, everything was a mindless blur of mystery. There were no clues of his life, his mind, or who he was. The world was dark, and his eyes were unable to open... Until this day came.
As if he had been released, his eyes slowly but surely began to open. The slight darkness still roamed within the room, but there was a small glow that bounced back at him. The beam followed his constant gaze, capturing his every move.
Where am I? He thought to himself.
Surgical tools, scalpels ranging in size and futuristic-looking items were plastered on the wall, held back by black bars. The walls were formed by repetitive mirrors, reflecting the glow back at his very glimpse.
Suddenly, a weakening pain absorbed his mind. Thoughts rushed through his head of familiar things: green fields, the breeze of the mountains, standing out in the open air. Inhaling the soft wind, looking to find trees and a gorgeous night sky that was filled with stars of all sorts.
So much hit him at once that his breathing began to hitch. He remembered the day that he had became emotionless. He remembered the clarity of the sky glaring down at him. He remembered that there was no sun, only darkened clouds that formed an overcast. He remembered that no one was around. He remembered the rustle in the trees, the dead leaves in the grass, the echoes of the wind.
His hands coldly gripped the arms of the metal chair that he was sitting in. His eyes bolted open in an instant, relieving himself from the sudden attack of shattered dreams and empty thoughts. It wasn't his intention to remember his past, but it was all he had left. The present was a new game, a new start, and he hardly remembered a single thing.
A tear dripped past his confused eyes, bringing his chilled hand up to his soft face to wipe it away. It wasn't the time to cry, nor was it time to grieve. The only thing he wanted and needed most were answers, and how to get out of this place. He didn't want to waste so much effort on his own pain and suffering. After all, it had been the first time he had been awake for what felt like centuries.
What if something terrible happened? Maybe that was why he was there. Alone and in a dark room in a chair. Tools on the wall. Mirrors reflecting back at him.
What was this place?
He had thought about that for too long. He thought that now he had gotten all of the pain out of his head that he could move on and possibly go somewhere else.
Without another thought, he put his feet solidly on the floor and pushed up his body, attempting to stand. Releasing the chair, his eyes widened as he felt a sharp pain emerge from his back. It felt as if something was stuck inside him, like a pointy object of sorts. He turned around at a certain angle and glared behind him, his eyes burning at the sight of a cord. A cord.
He growled as dizziness flooded his head. He was attached to something.
The glow of his eyes shined at a large metal compartment behind the chair. It was the same familiar chrome color as the metal chair, futuristic and mysterious.
At this point, he was shaking at all of the things that were rushing through his mind. He didn't want to remember those thoughts, and to make it worse, these clues were slowly but surely amounting up to something. If these weren't signs, then what were they?
He wrapped his hand around the cord, grasping it firmly before he yanked it with all his might. He fell forwards as it was jolted out of him, making him growl with immense pain. He felt fluids shooting through his eyes as his hands clawed his face. The pain was unbearable, but quick. It would end soon. It was nearly like pulling off a loose fingernail that was deeply hidden in your skin.
Tensely letting out heavy breaths, he sighed with anger.
"Why must this happen to me?" he asked himself, his own voice sounding unfamiliar. It was like he had never heard it before.
Was he revamped? Did something change him enough to make him forget all memory and just completely restart?
His skin still had a feverish burn from his nails scratching into his skin in reaction to the pull. His heart was shaking eagerly. He looked up to the ceiling, it nearly having the same glow to it as the walls. The whole room was almost like a giant and black glass box. Who knew what had happened in there before.
He sighed heavily before he began walking. It felt strange to walk, like being forced to do something new. He stumbled a little at first, but he got ahold of himself as he found a door to his right. It had two slants, as if it were an opening.
He bit his lip with anticipation as he studied it, the shades of grey confusing his eyes. He brushed his fingers against it, blinking as he softly absorbed the textures into his palms. He backed up a little bit as he heard a heavy noise clank somewhere in the distance, making his gaze fall to his wrist. There, like it was written in pen, was the number seven.
"Seven?" he asked aloud, his brow furrowing at the marking. What could that mean?
The door in front of him sliced itself open, revealing a pathway that he was instructed by instinct to follow. It was just as dark and futuristic as the previous room, making him wonder if everything was like this.
Pressing his feet to the once black floor, bright neon lights emerged from the floor under him. They brightened with his slow footsteps, fading as he stepped away. It was in sync with his movements, as if it were a robotic installment. He never remembered anything of that nature, but then again, he couldn't remember a thing at all.
His feet tapped gently against the new floor, lights appearing before him as he got closer to something he was unaware of.
Voices, murmurs and babbling could be heard from afar. To his surprise, they all stopped before he approached yet another new black door, it having its own lights.
"Welcome."
