Life is not always fair and some days I feels like it is being extra unfair. Despite all of this we all try to live as best as we can, with the little graces in between
My name is Tembokuhle. Loosely translated means hopeful in isiXhosa, one of the official languages in South Africa. This is my second year a the university, which means I'll be graduating soon. I can't wait!!
My alarm rings and I groan and turn over to my bedside to turn it off. I really do not feel like attending any classes today. I only got to my flat around 03:00am.As I pull back over my head to get my much needed sleep, I'm interrupted by the blaring sound from my phone.
I take it out from under my pillow, to see my bestie's name reflecting on the screen. I answer.
"Please do not forget to also bring highlighters and an extra pencil for me, to complete our group assignment. "She does not even greet smh.
"Sh*t! I completely forgot that we are supposed to meet after our morning lecture." I am already up on my feet, trying to make my bed with one hand.
"It's a good thing I called then."
"I'll see you now now". I drop the call then put my phone on the dresser.
I quickly make my bed, take a quick shower, brush my teeth then exit the bathroom. I rummage through my closet and settle for black skater skirt, warm stockings, brown ankle boots and a white turtle neck paired with a scarf. I had to make an effort since I love cold days. After getting dressed, I tie my hair in a bun then add a red ribbon on he side.
When I am satisfied with my look, I grab my books and head to the kitchen to make cereal after I am done with everything. I shout a goodbye to my sleeping housemates.
It takes me 20 minutes to get to campus. As I approach the door to where our lecture will be. I see my crush,Christopher also walking the same direction. He reaches for the door first, holds it open for me to go through first *swoon then he follows after. When I look to my left the lecturer is already there and then I look up to the back and see Chloe, my bestie waving me over. I make my way up and sit next to her.
"I saw you walking in followed by Mr. Handsome himself. Why did you not ask for his numbers on my behalf. "She whispers to me. I will confess that I did not tell her about the crush I have on him and I think that telling her is not necessary. Seeing that I will never get him.
"There was not enough time for any of that "Right before she says anything, the lecturer starts the lecture.
After 50 minutes the lecture ends and we are now on our way to the group discussion. Once we get to the library, our other group members are already there.
In addition to Chloe and I, there is also Caleb, who might I add is Christopher's friend, Lungelo and Nthabiseng. Once we sit down, we get straight to work. We manage to complete the work in 2 hours time and we are now packing up.
"Caleb do you have Christopher's numbers?" Chloe enquires and Caleb gives her a confused face before speaking.
"I do. Why do you need it? "My ears have perked up by now.
Chloe clears her throat then looks him in the eye.
"I want to find out how I can join the society he's the chairperson of."
He takes out his phone and scrolls through it,when I think he has found it,he looks at my bestie.
"Are you ready?"I secretly took out my phone as well.
"Yeah sure".
"0-7-3-3-5-6-4-4-7-8,got it?"
"Thanks "We gather our bags then say our goodbyes.
I clap my hands while we are walking to the cafeteria.
"Well well, would you look at you. "She bows and does the princess wave.
"I am the best aren't I? "We both laugh.
"I didn't think you had it in you. "We are now both standing in line at one of the restaurants on campus. Ready to place our order when I have to go to the bathrooms.
"Could you please get me fries and a vanilla milkshake. I really need to pee."
"Yeah sure" I quickly make my way to the bathroom after I am done I walk out.
As I look up to see if I can spot Chloe anywhere, I see Christopher approaching the bathrooms as I am walking out.
When our eyes meet, he smiles.
"Hey"
