The room became warm, smoke filled a pink princess room. A child of gold and blue begins to turn in her bed the heat intensifying. A basket in the corner begins to cry from the heat, the child of gold and blue awakes from her slumber. Her heart beating fast, young youthful eyes dart around the room, barbie dolls melting and unicorns disappearing. The child’s lungs begin to fill the toxic smoke, her eyes burn from the heat, FIRE.

“ MOM!DAD!MOM!!” the child screamed at the top of her lungs, tears forming fall down her cheeks

No one answered the frightened child, she sat in a moment of silences. The basket once again began to cry, this time the girl didn’t cry for her mother or father instead she became the adult and took action. The young girl ran to the basket that cried, there laid a bundle of blankets, within the blanket was a baby of two months. Stanching the infant up the girl ran out of her opened door to be met by flames, her heart stopped she couldn’t get by the flames to the stairs. Caught in the moment of saving herself and her sibling, she ran back into her room and grabbed her blanket covering her and the baby she ran straight through the flames throwing the now on fire blanket off her and the baby. She carefully walked down the stairs creating loud creaks going down. There right ahead of her was the front door, joy filled the girl. But as soon as she touched the doorknob it burnt her, fear began to set in. As the child began to cry she could hear her dog outside barking his chain rattling, She eyed the doggie door, she shoved her sibling through the door following closely behind both covered in ash clothes burnt. The child was faced with a crowd of her neighbors all just looking at the house on fire no one had bothered to help.  Rage consumed the child as she looked into the eyes of those who would not help. She Heard the sirens of the Fire department showing up, that is when the people noticed the child of gold and blue holding a bundle of blankets, thats when someone came to help, thats when they were too late.

She sat holding her brother in an ambulance watching the firemen carry out two body bags. One for her mother's body and the other of her father's body. Most children wouldn't know what were in those bags but Liyan knew exactly what they were for she wasn't a child anymore.

That was fourteen years ago the town has moved on but the child of gold and blue hasn’t although she isn't the child of gold and blue anymore she is now the girl of black and green. Her hair blacker than the night sky without stars and it moon, blacker a crack at the oceans deep, blacker than the deepest of caves. The once blue eyes have turned to green not through contacts but like her mother her eyes shift between the two, blue and green. The years of morning in the dark has taken a toll upon her skin, porcelain . The skin upon her cheeks are lightly freckled one for every memory
