.00 - Bird

The rain hammered rhythmically against the roof of her umbrella as she wrapped her scarf around him, wiping away the tears that stained his cheeks and the cold raindrops. He moaned, turning away drunkenly and trying to stand up. He pressed a hand against the brick wall of the convenience store's alley and struggled as he placed his feet under him but quickly slid back down onto the wet concrete. She bit the inside of her cheek as she tried to find a way to pick him up. She didn't know what to do with him: she barely knew him.

She only knew him from those moments, they seemed like mere moments. But they were more, she began to realize. Some sort of forthcoming, something she was meant to notice. The birds multiplied in her mind now, she could hear their wings beating against her skull. He remained indifferent, trying to focus on what was in front of him but finding nothing but a messy blur. He knew someone was in front of him, but he couldn't react. All he could do was mumble syllables and succumb to the feeling of drowning, the alcohol numbing everything.

Before passing out, he heard her voice. It was soft and awkward through the struggle of his weight as she pulled him up. Her shoulder hit his chest and he almost dropped back to the floor, she groaned and swung one of his arms over her shoulder as she muttered: "Stupid bird."
