Chapter 1

I woke up to the sound of thunder. The windows rattled and shook after the sudden boom, and lighting lit up my bedroom. I looked at my alarm clock that was sitting on my nightstand. 2:14. I hate it when I wake up at this time of morning.

All of a sudden, an even bigger clash of thunder sounded from outside. I jumped, my heart racing. I hated storms. Every since I was little. I

remember running to my parents' bedroom, begging them to let me sleep with them. It isn't much easier to sleep alone during a storm, even now.

I knew I needed to go to sleep soon. My first day of college was tomorrow. I was going to go to New York University, which was about a 3 hour drive from home. I wasn't ready for this. I'm extremely attached to my parents. My stomach started churning just at the thought of living alone in a small room with a total stranger, without them.

Bradlynn, you need to go to sleep. Stop worrying, I told myself. I rolled onto my side and went to sleep, thinking of how much I would miss my own bed.
