Nothing

Am I better off dead?

Am I better off a quitter?

They say I'm better off now

Than I ever was with her.

As they take me to my local down the street

I'm smiling but I'm dying

Trying not to drag my feet.

" Mate, it's high time you forget about her." his best friend laid a hand on his shoulder. Maybe it was time he did but he just could not. She was stuck in his mind, driving him insane. She was all he could think about. She was at the corner of every street. His friends thought that he was going crazy and maybe he was but he just needed her. She was his cure. She always knew what to do.

" She's not coming back." he tried again, " And you need to move on." he just shook his head. Moving on hurt too much. She was the one. She had always been the one.

" C'mon! I'm taking you out tonight so you can get drunk!" Maybe he should accept the offer and go out tonight. Alcohol would numb his senses and ease the pain.

They say a few drinks

Will help me to forget her.

But after one too many

I know that I'll never

Only they can see where this is gonna end.

They all think I'm crazy

But to me it's perfect sense.

" Here you go, mate!" his best friend set the glass of alcohol in front of him and slapped his back. He took the glass in his hand and observed the clear liquid. She had never agreed to his drinking because she knew what kind of trouble he always got himself into but she didn't care anymore. He had been stupid to let her go. Darn him and his ego. He should have just apologised even though he believed it wasn't his fault then maybe they would have both been at their apartment today, cuddling on the couch while watching a movie that he would have picked. I'm so damn stupid, he thought as he ordered another round of shots. He just wanted the pain to go away.

And my mates are all there

Trying to calm me down

Cause I'm shouting your name all over town

I'm swearing if I go there now

I can change her mind

Turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words

And she'll listen this time

Even though they're slurred

So I dialled her number and confessed to her

That I'm still in love

But all I heard was nothing.

" Man, you've got to calm down." his friend tried to reason him but he wouldn't listen. Tears were flowing down his face as he repeatedly called her name. He could change her mind. All he needed was her to agree to see him. As soon as she saw his condition, she would come crawling back to him. She knew he needed her to keep him on track.

" I'm calling her." he heard his friend say, " She'll know what to do." he wanted to be the one to talk to her but he couldn't. He would probably break down if she refused to talk to him. He was craving to hear her voice, craving her gentle touch, craving the feeling of her soft lips on his.

" What did she say?" his other friend asked and his ears perked up.

" She didn't answer the phone." he said, looking at his feet. Wow, she really didn't want to hear from him, did she? He hadn't realised how easy it would have been for her to move on. There was only one way he could get her to listen to him.

So I stumble there

Along the railigs and the fences

I know with her face to face

That she'll come to her senses

Every drunk step I take leads me to her door

If she sees how much I'm hurting

She'll take me back for sure

He gripped the railing tightly as he stumbled down the footpath. He was close to her house, just about a block away and yet, he could not muster the courage to talk to her. His vision was blurry, his steps messy and he knew had drank a little more than he should have, not to mention his heart pounding against his ribcage. House 215. There he was. He stumbled down the driveway as he approached the front door. His heart was pounding wildly in his chest as his fist connected with the door. It clicked open and there she was, looking more beautiful than the last time he had seen her. She looked shocked as she let out a shaky breath:

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I- I need you back." he breathed, "I- I'm going mad without you and I need you to take care of me." He begged but she remained silent. Nothing.

"P- please say something." he dropped to his knees, "Don't give up on me yet." He sobbed in his hands. She could not bear it anymore. She dropped to her knees as well and pulled him in her arms. She hushed him while rubbing little circles on his back.

Oh sometimes love's intoxicating

Oh you're coming down

Your hands are shaking

When you realise there's no one waiting.

"I'm sorry for saying nothing." she whispered as he hand caressed his cheek, "you're drunk but safe and I couldn't be more thankful for that." His hands were slightly shaking as he cupped her face:

"I love you so much, angel." his fingers brushed over her lower lip before he leaned in. She kissed him with fervor, showing him that she had missed him just as much as he had.

"Promise me you're not going to leave again."

"I promise."
