I sat on the bonnet of Anthony's car as we all gathered round to watch the drive in movie. I dangled my legs and swung them off the side of the car, huddled in Anthony's sweater. I don't know how it fell into my possession; he just kept leaving it at my house.  Not many people were here, I mean it's 1995; people stopped coming in the 80's. There were a few older couples, here for nostalgia, I suppose. And other groups of teens like us who were making the most of the 100 degree weather rather than being cooped up in a theatre.

Anthony, Mari and I were all sat on the bonnet of Anthony's car and everyone else was in Ian's car, not sitting on the bonnet as they didn't believe Ian when he said "he had cleaned it."

The movie began and it was okay but after a while I felt myself drifting off.

I woke up an hour later lying on the backseat of Anthony's Chevrolet. His sweater still on me and now his jacket, even though it was still mildly warm. The movie was still going, not long to go until it ended though.
"Have a nice nap?" Anthony asked. He had returned to the drivers seat and Mari had gone to sit on Sohinki's lap.
"Mm." I mumbled.
"Are you okay?" He asked, leaning over.
"I'm fine." I replied, almost snapping, he looked back at me, shocked and I got up and out of the car. "I need to cool down, I'm um, really warm." I said, walking away but he followed after me in a jog.

"You're not still mad at me are you?" He asked, looking at me with eyes that almost made me feel guilty. "For what happened the other day?"

I sighed. "I don't know."

His eyes flickered from me to the floor and back. "Liv." He spoke, trying to grab my hands but I took a step back.

"Maybe.. maybe we should take a break.. just for a little while." I said, I hadn't planned this it just happened. And it seemed like a good idea, I need time to heal and he doesn't understand that.

"A-a break? Are you serious?" He snapped.

"Just for a little-" I said but he cut me off by saying 'fine' and walking back to the cars.

I let out a massive sigh and slumped to ground leaning against a tree. I thought I would cry but I didn't. I could feel the pain in my heart though, but I promised my mom I would never cry over a boy.

"That was intense." A voice said, appearing from behind the tree. I gasped out of shock but then I turned to see a girl my age smiling at me. I sent her a smile back and took it as a sign to sit next to me.

"I'm Courtney." She introduced herself, and gave me her hand to shake. "Olivia." I said, taking it.

"How come you broke up with him?" Courtney asked leaning against the tree.

"It's a long story." I sighed.
"It's alright, you don't have to explain. But we could do secret for secret. I was just trying to sneak in, because I'm broke." She said giggling and I found myself laughing too. It felt really nice to laugh.

"Olivia!" I heard my name being called by Sunny; Ian's older brother. My laugh stopped as I realised it was time to get back to reality.

"Uh, I gotta go, those are my rides." I said, standing up and gesturing back to the two cars parked a little while away.

"Oh, alright." Courtney said, also standing up. "As for the secret, I'll probably see you around; it's a small town." She remarked, smirking.

"Small world." I said as I walked away giving her a wave, she waved back and I saw her disappear off into the trees.

On the ride back all I could think about was seeing this strange, blonde girl again. Even if it did mean telling this almost stranger something I didn't even want to talk to my mom about.
