Late that night, I couldn't stop tossing and turning. I keep having vivid memories of my mother, her green eyes, her auburn hair, and her tall figure. I jolt awake to the sound of a deep growl.

"Mason!" I say reaching towards my brother. Snore. I quit trying, and face the sound. I remember a transmutation circle and quickly draw it on the ground. I then think of a weapon, and transmute it. Small blue lightning bolts flash around me, and a spear slowly rises out of the ground.

"Come on!" I hoarsely whisper at it as the creature stalks closer. I can see it's malicious red eyes, and the glint of it's fangs in the blue electric blots. The spear finally reaches the surface as the creature leaps not for me, but my sleeping twin next to me.

"NO!" I scream as I lunge with the creature, and brace the spear against my chest. The thing snaps it's jaws inches from my face. Mason quickly wakes up, and screams. That must've scared it, because it leaps off of me, one of it's claws cutting the bridge of my nose open. I shriek in pain, and it whimpers as it steps away, tail tucked between it's legs.

"Why are you crying?!?" I scream at it.

"Scared....." it says back. I blink a few times, and then pinch myself.

"Did...... Did you just say 'scared'?" I ask it.

"Have you ever heard of a Chimera?" it asks.

"Yeah, but I've never heard of one that can speak like you. And your voice isn't weird like the other ones," I respond.

"Well, technically I'm a cross breed between a Chimera which consisted of a wolf and human, and an average dog," it says.

"What should I call you?" I ask gingerly.

"My name is Assassin," he says.

"Cool. I like that," I complement.

"Thank you, I quite like it myself," Assassin says proudly.

"So, why'd you try to attack us?" I finally question.

"Oh, well...... OH I FEEL SO BAD!!! I was so hungry, and I was tired of staying in the shadows to hunt......... I didn't know what got into me!!!" Assassin wails.

"It's fine, really. There's a dumpster over there if you're hungry," I say softly to the midnight black Chimera.

"Do..... Do you mind if I stay with you two?" Assassin asks almost innocently.

"Uh..... no?" I hesitate to respond, worried that Mason would object.

"Our already Hodge podge little gang just got a bit more unbelievable," Mason mutters under his breath as he rolls over to continue sleeping.

"Right. I'm going to go to sleep Assassin," I inform the Chimera.

"Goodnight," he says.

"Night," I say back. Mason snores.

That night, Assassin had a dreamlike memory. It was of his father, and how he had been turned into a Chimera. His father, in human form then, was strapped onto a table. Across from him was a grey wolf chained to a post. A door opened and man with glasses walked up.
"Hello Nixiom, my name is Shou Tucker. I will be turning you into a Chimera," Shou explained. Nixiom made a disgusted face.
"Ah, I see that you seem worried. Don't fret, it won't be recorded into any archives. You see, I enjoy making Chimeras, and you will be one of my most advanced Chimeras," he failed to reassure Nixiom.
"Now, let's get started," Shou says as he places his hands on a transmutation circle. It doesn't have a chance to run, and both human and wolf wails ring in the room. Tucker grins, bloodthirsty, as man and beast weld together.

After the transmutation is complete, Tucker bends down to his creation.
"Now, Nixiom, was it that bad?" he asks, and Nixiom snaps his newly powerful jaws at Tucker's head, his fangs just inches from his nose.
"He's a feisty one, you better lock him up," Tucker says with a casual laugh. That's where that memory ends, and a new one begins.

Assassin's mother lay in the street with blood covering her thick coat. Her stomach is exposed as she lays in the cobblestone street, beyond the point where she could be helped. She was once a beautiful husky with her black and white coat. Assassin's father was a Chimera, and his mother was a regular dog. Watching the scene, Assassin didn't know what happened. All he knew that one minute, he was following his mother across the road, and the next, a large black car slammed into her with a large jolt. Red had sprayed everywhere as Assassin watched his mother fly ten feet forward with a large, painful, heartbreaking yelp. Another oncoming car struck her in the torso, and she just lay there, gasping for breath. She finally took one last breath, and slowly exhaled. She never took another breath again.
Assassin finally jolted awake as the girl named Cassandra told him gently that they were going to practice a thing called 'Alchemy'. He stood up on all fours, and shook. Assassin wondered how he had a memory of his father. He wasn't there to witness it, so how could've he remembered? Shaking the thought off, he padded over and sat to watch small sparks and lighting bolts flash. Should I tell them about my memory? Assassin thought. He shook the thought off, and continued to watch the two humans use Alchemy to create small dogs made of stone, and even a small sculpture of himself. He decided that he would stay with these people and protect them. They were young and alone, so he figured they'd need protection. Content with his decision, he lazily lay down.
