The Princess in Disguise

The water..

We walked until we got to the beach. It was a good 30 minute walk, so, by then, my legs were aching. I wanted to collapse on the sand, but she did not let me. "My legs hurt" I complained softly. She pulled me into the water, quite forcefully, sat me down, and cupped water in her hands. The water rained down my legs in a intricate, pattern almost, and after she did that for a few seconds, my legs did not hurt. Next, she cupped water in her hands, and poured and poured it down my arms and legs, it rained down in the same patter, but when she finished, my cuts and scars were gone. Then, she grabbed me and shook me, and screamed "don't you know who you are?!" My eyes started to water, I turned my face so she would not notice. Then she shook me and yelled "why would you do that to yourself?!!!" at this point I was crying, and  I Iooked at her, tears streaming down my and said "yes, I know who I am, I am a nobody, nobody knows me, or cares about me, why do you?" Then she looked at me, and looked sad and said "oh my gosh, I am so sorry! You really don't know do you?" I shook my head, and she held me and wiped away my tears.

 After a few seconds, I stopped crying. Then she asked"Are you ready to know who you really are now?", I looked at her and asked"will you tell me who you are first, please?" She smiled and said "certainly", I am Penelope, the daughter of Poseidon and I am also your guardian". When she said guardian, I got mad at her" Your my guardian?! Then why haven't you protected me from all the people who have hurt me? My parents, the people at school..." She hugged me, smiled and said "Because I was not allowed to come into your life until now". I was really confused by that answer "Why?!", she just looked me at me and said, "it's complicated". I nodded, I was still confused but decided to leave it at that. "And another thing" she interjected,"the people you think are your parents, they aren't your real parents". Really?! They aren't my real parents, but how? I remember since as long as I can remember, maybe she is wrong.. What if she is a crazy person, and I just walked into a trap of some kind?! "How are they not my parents?" I asked, bewildered. " Well, you see," she began" when you were very young, there was a great war in the sea, and""Wait, wait, wait, wait wait!" I interrupted "in the sea, what do you mean?" She looked at me and frowned"You don't-" then she said, "well, I guess I need to start at the beginning then". "Please do" I said, still very confused. "Very long ago" Penelope began" you forefathers, all lived on land, and were very happy there because the land was so peaceful, and filled with love and happiness.But one day, a war came, but just any war,  but a war the shook the foundation of the earth, and it went on for so long, so they finally decided they had enough, but they did not know what do it about it. They started by trying to negotiate with the people, telling them that they should try to settle their differences peacefully, and that violence was never the answer. But the humans did not stop, they kept fighting, and it continued, until your forefathers' soul was vexed by being on land. At that time, he he had a a great he friend he told his problems too, and when he told his friend this, his friend told him he could help. Your father was naturally very interested in finding out how his friend could help him, and his friend told you forefather that he was a sorcerer, and that he could turn him and his family into merpeople with a spell, and with a potion he had, they would live forever, as long as they were in the sea, and no shark or any other sea creature would harm them, but in fact, they would become friends with them. At first, naturally, your forefather was skeptical and did not believe but then his friend told him to take his family to the water's edge and let him prove it. So, he did just that. Your forefather took his wife,son, two daughters and his friend to the water's edge, his friend said something in words he did not understand, and then took out a potion in a green bottle and gave them all a thimble full. The potion was strong and made them pass out, and when they woke up, his friend was gone. They all thought that his friend had simply lied, but your forefather only told his wife the real reason why they went there, he did not tell his children, so they just thought they were going for a swim, so all 3 of their children made a mad  dash toward the water. At first, your forefather thought nothing of it, until his children started screaming at the top of their lungs, then both he, and his wife ran into the water, to figure out what was wrong. When they hit water, they instantly grew tails, your forefather's tail was blue, his wife's tail was pink, his daughter's tail's were pink and red, and their son's tail was orange, and all of the girls had tops matching their tails, but the boys did not. They all looked at their father and mother who were amazed by what they saw. The spells and potion had worked! Their friend the sorcerer was not lying to them! After explaining to their children what happen, they were all overjoyed. None of them liked blood shed.  And soon after the found more merepeople like them and started the underwater kindgdom of mertopia. Your forefather was king, and his wife was queen. The rule was, that the 3rd child, born to the 3rd girl on the 3rd day would be the next king or queen of mertopia, and every 20 years, someone else would be crowned king or queen. And the for the next 100 years, everything was peaceful, the mermaids swam wherever they pleased, without having to worry about anyone or anything harming them, and everything was perfect. " "Then what happened?!" I asked excitedly. She turned to me with sadness in her eyes. To be continued
