( ' ' means thinking in her head.)
Sam's POV:
We were walking back to the campsite which wasn't that far away from where we were. All I know is that Madison was taking things a lot better than I thought she would, I mean after all she just saw a man's head get snapped.
Madison's POV:
I couldn't believe what just saw, Roy's head was turned all the way around. Inside I was having an absolute freakout and was definitely scared, but on the outside I was emotionless I don't want the guy to think I'm a wimp, they won't let me tag along with them then. I don't know how they do this all the time, I'll probably get used to it as time goes on, I mean they did and they were put into this when they were kids probably, if a 12 year old can get used to this than so can I.
-Time Skip to Day-
I sit with Sam against a hollow tree stump, while he holds his book or journal I kind of just look over his shoulder, he is just playing with the lanyard attached to the leather bound journal, marking a page . I look over at Dean, Haley, and Ben over by the tents, they aren't that far away so I kind of eavesdropped on their conversation. "I don't...I mean, these types of things, they aren't supposed to be real." Haley says to Dean, "I wish I could tell you different." He says. "How do you know about this stuff?" She asks, Dean didn't answer right away but eventually said, "Kind of runs in the family.", Sam starts to get up and so did I. We walked over to where the other three were, "Hey, so we've got half a chance in the daylight. And I for one want to kill the evil son of a bitch." Sam says to us. "Well, hell, I'm in then." I say. Sam looks at me worriedly, "You sure, because it's fine if you just wanna stay here and stay safe, I don't want you hurt or to see anything that might scar you." He says, "Why do you keep underestimating me? I can clearly take care of myself I've had self defense taught to me and I'm pretty sure I can handle whatever comes my way." I say up to i'm with my hands on my hips. "Sam just let 'er come, if she says she can handle it then she can handle it" Dean says in my defense, "Thank you Dean! See if Dean thinks I can do it than I can." I say gratefully that Dean thinks that way. 'If he thinks I can handle myself than I should be good right?'
"Wendigo' is a Cree Indian word. It means 'evil that devours.' ", Sam says showing Haley the journal. I went over to Haley so I could get a good look at the journal too. "They're hundreds of years old. Each one was once a man. Sometimes an Indian, or other times a frontiersman or a miner or hunter." Dean said. "How's a man turn into one of those things?" I asked. Dean goes over and picks a couple of things off the ground. "Well, it's always the same. During some harsh winter a guy finds himself starving, cut off from supplies or help. Becomes a cannibal to survive, eating other members of his tribe or camp." Dean elaborated for us, "Like the Donner Party." Ben said, I noticed he really didn't talk much through this whole thing, but then again who would there brother was missing my some supernatural being. "Cultures all over the world believe that eating human flesh gives a person certain abilities. Speed, strength, immortality." I said, Sam and Dean looked over at me confused. "What, I can't know things either? I graduated early remember that, I'm smart just like you bud." I say pointing at Sam, He just chuckled a bit and Dean went back to business. "Anyways, if you eat enough of it, over years, you become this less than human thing. You're always hungry."He said. "So if that's true, how can Tommy still be alive?" Haley asked, "You're not gonna like it." Dean said glancing back at Sam and I, then turns back to Haley with an unsure look. "Tell me." She states demandingly. "More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it's awake it keeps its victims alive. It, uh, it stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants. If your brother's alive, it's keeping him somewhere dark, hidden, and safe. We gotta track it back there." He says. "And then how do we stop it?" I ask looking at Dean. "Well, guns are useless, so are knives. Basically-" Dean stops mid-sentence and holds up a can of lighter fluid, a beer bottle, and a white cloth he had picked up earlier.
"We gotta torch the sucker?" I ask. "Now you got it Red!" He said excitedly.
Dean leads the way through the woods, Molotov he had made to burn the Wendigo in hand. Haley follows him, then Ben,and then Sam and I. I always feel so short next to him, probably because I am only 5'5 and he's like 6'4. We pass trees with claw marks and blood, "Sam?" I ask and look up at him. "Yeah?" He says looking down at me, "Why are you so goddamn tall and I'm so short" I ask with a laugh. " I don't know I think we have the same parents so I could have just been the lucky one out of the bunch." He says laughing. " You know even if it turns out you're not our sister, I think we'll keep you around even if Dean says no. It may not look like it but deep down I think he secretly hopes you are our sister. You can make me laugh even in a serious moment and you've kept my spirits up. You'd be a good hunter." He finished. "I think I'd like to stay too, You guys seem like good people more of the vigilante type, but that's not always a bad thing right? Hey, and Deans given me a nickname, Red, that's a start right?" I say and Sam just looks down and nods laughing a bit, ending the conversation.
-Later in the day-
Sam went up to the front of the group leaving me to walk up by Dean because I don't want to be in the back alone. I don't know what it is I just feel safer with either Sam or Dean, probably because they are so tall and strong. I laugh at my own thought making Dean give me a questioning look. "What's so funny down there Red" He asks me and I simply say "Nothing" with a smirk. "Dean."Sam says making Dean and I catch up to him. "What is it?" Dean asks looking at Sam. Then they take a moment to look around and I do the same. I look around at the trees and see bloody claw marks and broken broken branched laying everywhere. "You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct. They were almost too easy to follow." Sam states. Just then we hear growling behind us and all three of us whip around to see where the noise came from, the the trees rustle above us. Haley was standing under a tree and blood then comes from above and drips on her shoulder. She felt the wetness from the blood and looks up at the tree she was standing under. She quickly jumps out of the way and Roy's lifeless corpse lands where Haley had once stood. I see Roy and my stomach flipped over, "I could have saved him if I just ran quicker." I say to no one in particular. "No you couldn't have he wouldn't have listened to you anyways." Sam says to me reassuringly. Dean goes over and examines Roy's body, while I go over to Haley. Sam walks over to Dean, "You okay? You got it?" I ask Haley. "His neck broke." Dean said to him. I help Haley up and yell over to,"You don't say." I say sarcastically because I saw it all happen. Just then we heard more growling around us. "Okay, run, run, run, run, go, go, go!" I yell to everyone as we all take off. Ben fell while running and Sam and I hurry back to help him up, dividing the group three and two.
"Come on, I gotcha, I gotcha." Sam says to Ben, while Dean and Haley stop short, they knew that the wendigo was right in front of them. Haley lets out a scream, "Haley?" Ben says worriedly. Sam stops running and I find the Molotov that Dean had made earlier. I showed Sam the broken bottle, "DEAN!" He yells out.
