Everly Pierce
I grew up in a quiet neighborhood in Wolverhampton. Two months before my 6th birthday my parents died in a brutal car accident leaving me an orphan. My neighbors took me in for the time being, later decided they didn't want to let me go, so they adopted me. Although I kept my last name, Pierce, I grew fond of my adoptive parents eventually calling them mom and dad. They had three children themselves, my two new sisters Ruth and Nicola, and a new brother Liam who is a year older than me. They were my family, they are my family.
Liam was my best friend from the beginning, he always stuck up for me, and was always there to lend a hand to me. School was rough and we would both get picked on, it resorted into a lot of rebellion and by 18 Liam was hanging out with the wrong crowd. I had just graduated from high school and was planning on college but money was scarce and I didn't want to burden my parents. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do in my senior year of high school. I made the decision to take a year off before college to work and save up some money. So far I've had a decent amount stashed away but I was no where close to my ultimate goal.
I was folding my laundry when I heard the door slam.
"Everly?" A familiar voice yelled from downstairs.
"Liam?" I called back. I set my laundry down and walked down the stairs. "Is everything okay?"
His arms were full with tattoos, he always seemed on edge. Our parents didn't talk to Liam much anymore, we tried so many interventions that after a few we all stopped, he wasn't going to change. I never gave up on him.
"I need money. A few hundred I know you have it. I'll pay you back." He looked at me with wide brown eyes.
"For what now?" I sighed.
"Please." He pleaded.
"Drugs? Alcohol? Strippers?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't have to explain myself to you." He brushed me off.
"Liam, if you want money you better tell me what it's for." I crossed my arms.
He pulled out a carton of cigarettes and put one in his mouth. Before he could light it up I grabbed it out of his mouth and threw it on the ground stepping on it.
"You know our parents don't like smoking in the house." I said as my eyebrows pushed together.
He rolled his eyes at me. He fiddled with his hands, a nervous habit of his, always wanting to keep his hands busy.
"Did you get the money?" A man said walking in the house.
"Just give me s minute, man!" Liam shouted.
The man rolled his eyes, he had tattoos up and down his arms as well. His hair was slicked back by the natural grease in it. "The guys are in the car, we gotta get going. You know he doesn't like to be kept waiting, especially when he's not the driving."
"Where are you going?" I asked turning my head to Liam. "Who was that? What's he talking about?" I had so many questions.
"Everly, stay out of my business." He held his hand up to get me to stop asking questions.
"Fine, then I'm coming along." I said grabbing my purse stuffing it with money from my stash. We started heading out the door, the man followed me but Liam was hesitant.
"No, no, no." He grabbed my wrist. "This is too dangerous for you." He warned.
"If you want the money I suggest you let me come." I jerked my wrist out of his grips.
