On September 16, a cloaked woman silently walks in the bustling streets of Central. People dare not to look at her general direction, and people move out of the way. Her storm gray eyes flick around, lighting dancing as though it was given too much sugar. One person with their nose buried in a book accidentally slams into her.

"Hey! Watch whe-," the man started, but an electric bolt ran through his body. The woman smirked. People will be people, but they'll eventually learn their lesson, one way or another. The man looks at her, then points and yells

"FREAK! SORCERESS! SA-" once again, he couldn't finish his sentence because she sends a small lighting bolt at his feet. She liked sorceress, freak, not as much. But Satanist was a whole different story. That infuriated her. She watches as the man runs away, but hears a familiar sound.

"Alchemy," she whispers to herself, and runs towards the sound.

As she rounds the corner, she comes to an alleyway. About halfway down, two teenagers sit on the ground, practicing alchemy.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" She yells. They turn towards her. They looked pathetic with their baggy clothing and dirt smudged faces. Their hair was unkempt, and they looked exhausted. The next sight took her breath away.

Next to the children was a Chimera. It had red menacing eyes, and it's coat was matted from neglect. It's claws were about three inches long, and were fatally sharp. It was jet black, and it let out a low growl as if it were warning her to not get closer. She took a step forward and it's hackles raised.

"I asked you a question. What are you doing?" Naomi demanded.

"Well, my brother and I are training to carry our practices of alchemy on. We want to become State Alchemists," the girl said with defiance like fire in her voice.

"What are your names?" Naomi asked, not letting her intimidating demeanor go.

"I'm Cassandra Snare," the brave girl said. Usually people wavered in her dark presence, but this girl showed no fear. The larger boy kept silent until she asked him the same question.

"I'm Mason Snare, Cassandra's brother," he explains.

"I see the resemblance. Let's talk about what you said earlier, Cassandra," Naomi says. They sat there, dumbfounded.

"That's a signal for you to get up and come with me," Naomi snapped. The Snare's scrambled to their feet. Naomi, not saying a word to the two, lead them to a small diner to get breakfast.

"You said earlier that you wanted to become a State Alchemist?" Naomi asks, watching the two shovel eggs and buttered bread into their small mouths.

"Yes ma'am, our mother was teaching us and training us, but she disappeared," Mason explained to her.

"I see. And this wasn't brought to the military's attention?"

"No, they never wanted to do much with our village. That's if you can even call it a village."

"Where'd you come from?"

The two looked at each other. Mason shamefully hung his head and muttered,

"Kanama."

"The small slum just outside of Central, and on the border of Amestris and Creto?"

"That's a very vivid explanation, but yes, that's our village," Cassandra said, wiping the yellow yolk of the egg with her bread, and popping it into her mouth.

"It is decided then" Naomi said, getting the feeling that they would become great alchemists. The siblings look at each other, confused.

"But we didn't ask anything of you," Cassandra said.

"Well I decided anyway. I'll train you to become alchemists so you can get your State license," Naomi said, imagining them practically at her feet thanking her. Instead, they burst out into an uncontrollable laughter.

"What's so funny?" Naomi asked, confused.

"Are you even an Alchemist?" Cassandra and Mason ask, almost in unison. Naomi looked to see if anybody was watching the scene, and with a wave of her hand, the twins were soaked to the bone.

"It's been a while since I used rain, thought I got a bit rusty with my skills," Naomi muttered to herself.

"You can use water alchemy?" Mason asked. Naomi clicked her tongue.

"You should study harder. That's something you'll do with me. I don't use water alchemy, I use weather alchemy. Your training starts as soon as we get to my house tomorrow," Naomi said, disapproving the guess that the boy made. She silently dismissed herself as she stood up, and whisked the siblings away to the train.
