He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

Chapter 7

After what Jake said to me, my decision is clear: I'm going to go to Mr. McCandles and tell him the bra is mine and it was in his room because of Jake Reynolds. I'm so done with Jakes shit and him thinking he can control me. No, he doesn't get to make me upset. Let's see how he likes it.

I march down the hallway towards the health room. I ignore the stares I am getting because of my smeared my makeup and the death look that must be on my face.

"Alexis Andrews! Wait up!" Tony runs to catch up with me.

I roll my eyes at him. "Not now Tony."

"Hey, are you okay?" He asks me with sincere eyes. No. They aren't sincere. He's a Reynolds. It's not possible.

"I just have something I really need to do."

"Lex, let's think this through okay? Talk to me."

"Believe me, I have definitely thought this through."

Tony must realize I'm heading towards McCandles class because his eyes become huge, and he yells," No Alexis! No! Stop!"

I walk into McCandles's classroom while he's lecturing. I had no idea he had a class right now. And i sure as hell did not know that fucking Jake Reynolds was in his class.

"Miss,uh.... I'm sorry, what's your name?"

I gulp. "Alexis. Alexis Andrews."

"Well, Miss Andrews, I'm in the middle of a class right now. Do you mind coming back during fourth period?"

"I... I... I just came to tell you that the bra... the bra is-"

"The bra is mine, okay!" Jake stands and announces. The whole class bursts into laughter.

"Mr. Reynolds-"

"I asked Lexi to cover for me because it was my senior prank. Ya know, bra found in a teachers classroom."

Mr. McCandles raises his eyebrows. "This was your senior prank?"

He nods. "Yes sir but I didn't mean for it to get this out of hand."

"Well, thank you for telling me Reynolds. Would you, uh, be needing it back?"

The whole class, including Jake, bursts into an uncontrollable laughter. "Please, keep it."

The bell rings and I rush out of the room. Why did he do that? He just said to me how much he doesn't care and he took the fall for me?

"Lex-"

"Don't!" I yell, throwing my hands up. "I didn't ask you to do that."

"I was trying to-"

"God Jake, I don't fucking care what you tried to do!"

"I was protecting you!"

"I don't need your protection!"

"You were going to do something stupid!"

"I did that when I kissed you!" That sentence snaps me back into reality. The entire hallway is quiet, maybe even the whole school is quiet. Oh God, oh God, what did I do?

Jake extends his hand towards me. "Let's go talk somewhere else."

Before I can even make up my mind, a fist nails Jake in the face. I expect this to be Tony, but it's not. It's Tyler Andrews.

My brother is straddling Jake punching him multiple times. "Ty stop it!" They both begin wrestling on the ground and I try to break them up, but an arm pushes me back. I look up and see the heartbroken eyes of Tony Reynolds.

"Jake, knock it off!" He pulls his brother off of Ty, and leads him away from the fight.

Ty rushes towards me and I flinch, as if I'm expecting him to hit me even though I know he never would. "What did I tell you Lex! What did I tell you!"

"Don't be so dramatic-"

"No! I specifically told you to stay the fuck away from him and you lose your clothes for him in the health room!"

Tears fill my eyes again. "Tyler-"

"I'm done with you!" Tyler storms off.

Everyone has gathered around now, no one saying a word. Instead, they point their phones at me. I spot Abigail on the crowd just as she's rushing towards me. "Don't you bastards have a class
to get to," she yells, and just like that, everything goes back to normal.

I start sobbing again. I can't help it. The whole school knows the bra was mine and that I was with Jake Reynolds.

Abigail looks at me with the kindest eyes I never knew she had. "Oh honey." She pulls me in for a hug and I hold her tight as if someone might take her from me.

My world has just turned upside down.

Is Jake starting to have feelings for Alexis? Why did Tyler beat Jake up? How will Tony react, knowing Jake made out with Alexis too?
