“Where are you taking me?” I giggled out, falling on yet another rock. I stumbled forward, almost falling to the ground. His quick, ready arms caught me immediately. He laughed nervously.
“You’ll see, I promise.” He assured me, his breath tickling my cheeks. I groaned childishly, leaning into his strong body for support. It seemed as if I had been walking around for hours, and I was anticipating what Ethan was so excited to show me earlier.
“I know you can be patient, little Birthday Girl,” He teased. I rolled my eyes, even if he couldn’t see it under the blind fold. I was hoping he was right.
“I’m not that little…” I scoffed, pouting. Now it was his turn to roll his eyes, I thought mutely. I could tell Ethan was grinning.
“Well you are only 5’3,” He pointed out.
“Well you are only a Giant,” I mocked. He chuckled.
“And that’s the way I like it, my little Elf,” Ethan taunted.
“It’s whatever you want, my big Giant,” I ridiculed, looking up and over my right shoulder. I shot him a fat smile. I tried to imagine what his face might look like right now. Was he smiling back? Was he looking away; looking into the distance? I wondered. I wish I knew…
I looked back in the direction Ethan had my body turn towards. I begin to question myself on where Ethan had kidnapped me off to. Was it was a fancy restaurant? A surprise party? Maybe a small little cabin he visits? No. I thought. It couldn’t be a restaurant—I’m walking out in the middle of a forest. It couldn’t be a surprise party either—my parents practically hated Ethan’s guts and could barely stand being in the same room as him. A cabin? Probably not. I knew that Ethan’s mom can barely afford her rent; nevertheless, another place to live. Where else could Ethan be taking me?
“Almost there…” Ethan whispered, squeezing my hand. My heart begin to beat faster momentarily and we both begin to advance our strides. I was eager to see what Ethan so desperately wanted to show me.
I couldn’t help but smile. Ethan was thrilled to show me my birthday present earlier. He said that it was a secret place, he’s never taken anybody. He said that maybe it could be our place. I was practically glowing when he ‘our place’—even if I knew what he really meant, instead of what I wanted it to. But Ethan also said that it was only part of my birthday present. What else could be more special than that?
“And… Stop,” Ethan said, excitement bubbling in his voice. Both our footsteps stopped and silence filled the air.
“You ready?” He whispered, nervousness creeping around his words.
“Yes,” I breathed, squeezing his hand to calm my nerves as well—I was never good with surprises, if you couldn’t tell. Electricity shot up my arm, and made me feel like… I was practically on a cloud, as cheesy as that sounded.
Ethan dropped my hand, and the happiness drained from me. He quietly walked in front of me, his breath on my mouth. I was terrified he was going to kiss me. But of course, he didn’t. Instead Ethan’s fingers softly rested around the back of my ponytail playing with the knot he had the blind fold in.
The forest area around us was so quiet. All I could hear were the rusheling of the leaves and Ethan playing with the blind fold. I bit my lip nervously. Without the blind fold on, I could quickly see bright and dark colors. Though, most of my vision was blocked by Ethan’s tall, strong structured body. I could just see a very bright light off in the distance, which was probably the sun.
