After Zoe left I sat on the couch and just kept thinking about when she was here. She had to go to London for important meetings and I didn't have to do anything. I didn't want to sit around moping all day so thought I would call Marcus and Chai and see if they wanted to hang out.
I pulled out my phone and was surprised to see a text from Zoe already. She usually didn't text me until she was on the train, and even then she usually waited until she got to London. I opened the text and read it quietly. I then reread it. Apparently there had been a shooting at Google HQ. She wasn't having her meeting anymore.

I didn't have enough time to get a taxi so I had convinced Marcus to drive me. He was going anyway to see what had happened. Zoe told me she didn't know who was hurt but apparently someone was really ill and there were rumours of a death.
Marcus drove quickly to the station and there we spotted Zoe right away. She was sitting on a bench in the centre of the station by herself, sobbing. No one was coming over to comfort him and it made me upset. If someone I didn't know was lonely and crying I would go up to them to make sure they were okay.
Marcus and I rushed over to her. She looked up at us with tears in her red eyes.
"Dan is hurt," she said before looking away again bursting into tears.
"Is anyone, you know?" Marcus asked. He didn't even have to finish the sentence and I already knew what he wanted.
"No, thank goodness no," Zoe said taking a deep breath of relief.
"It could have been you," I said looking at Zoe. The realisation of that suddenly hit me. That could have been Zoe who was hurt. I sat next to her on the bench and wrapped my arms around her. It could have been Zoe, but it wasn't. I was so thankful.
