The Devil Within

The devil lives in me,

I know, I let him in,

So many decades ago,

When I committed the sin.

I was only a child,

But the sin, it was not mild.

It’s my burden to bear,

Not many left to care.

I thought he was gone,

But I see that he’s back,

Choosing my words,

Waiting to attack.

Darkness looms near,

But death is what I fear.

It’s freedom I crave,

before going to my grave.
