Chapt. #1 That One Girl

All the stories of us needing blood to survive is a complete lie. It's just a craving to suck blood. Yes, my ancestors may have drank blood from innocent mortals, but I don't drink blood. None. There are more lies about us for instance, garlic. We can eat pounds of garlic if we had to. Us burning in the sun. We get sunburned easily, but not burnt to ashes. This is just a great example of how humans think.

My name is Umbra. I have oil black hair that's slicked back. I have ghostly white eyes. I like to wear black a lot. I stand at five feet nine exact. I live on the corner of 3rd Avenue and State Street alone without my parents. Slayers murdered my parents, but I survived. I am now the last vampire alive. Then I met her. She changed my life completely. She turned it upside down ever since I was invited to that celebration of the arrival.

It was a chilling fall morning. The crisp leaves gliding in the autumn breeze. The breeze was coming through my opened door. I was sipping on my hot chocolate when I saw a figure standing on the side walk in front of my house looking at me. The figure waved at me and signaled for me to come to her. I set my steaming hot chocolate on the coffee table and headed out to the front gate.

I walk outside in the cold air. It makes my breath when I exhale turn into a smoke that slowly floats upwards. The figure was actually a girl wearing a thick white jacket that made her look like a giant marshmallow.

The girl had light blue eyes that almost looked like ice. She had light black hair that almost looked like someone's shadow. She stood at about five feet seven, a couple inches shorter than me. She wore black jeans and pink shoes that had a white rim around it.

The girl spoke shyly, "H-hi. My name is Evangeline. I just moved here from

Portland, Oregon for a family business trip. I hope that we can become acquaintances and. . . maybe hang out some time?" Evangeline looks down at her shoes nervously.

"That would be all right with me, Evangeline." I say in my sort of deep voice.

"Oh thank you so, so much who ever you are." Evangeline said happily.

"Oh, I'm Umbra."

"Hey, Umbra. Doesn't your name mean shadow in Latin?" I nod my head. "Any who. . . How would you like to come over for a celebration? We're going to play games and. . . boring adult stuff!" She said smiling, causing me to smile a little. She handed me a party card. "See you at the party, Umbra!" She starts skipping to her house. I look down at the card. It looks as if she moved to the house on the other side of this block. What I didn't know was that I was getting myself into a heap of trouble and problems.
