Awaken by the smell of the homemade pancakes and waffles mom had made for breakfast, Lauren sat up in her bed and weakly smiled to herself. She got up to take a quick shower before heading down for breakfast in a casual yet beautiful sundress.
"Good morning, sunshine. Did you sleep well?" Her beautiful and fragile mother greeted her this way every morning.
She invited the warm and shining sun to embrace her back. She had been waiting for this since the first snow. "I slept like the dead. How was your night out? It sounded like you got in late."
"Yeah, I got in a little later than usual because of traffic, but it was nice just to hang out with your aunt and her friends." She smiled, remembering the previous night.
"Good, because you haven't had a nice night out in a while, you deserve especially since you work so hard everyday. You needed a break."
"She's right, Mom." Her twin brother, Ian, said as he gave his mother a slight kiss on the cheek. "You shouldn't work so hard all the time. Anytime you feel tired, let me know and I'll help out as much as I can."
Lauren smiled at her brother's compassion. He had always been this way since their father had left before they were born. Lauren never thought that she actually needed a father. Her mother had done an amazing job raising the twins on her own so far. She didn't really hate her father for leaving, but instead she really just wanted to understand why he would leave her mother when he was needed most. She shook the thoughts from her head and went about eating her breakfast.
After breakfast, Lauren and Ian headed out for school. Lauren might not have been a straight A student like her twin but she did pretty well in her classes with A's and B's. All throughout classes, Lauren tried to keep her mind off her father, but that seemed impossible. She wondered who he was or if he was even still alive. She couldn't stop the thoughts from rushing back and forth through her mind. She debated asking her mom about him but decided against for she felt like she would betray her mother by asking about the man that left them all those years ago.
