If there was another world that existed I would fit perfectly in it, a world where nothing made sense. I'm Paris Johnson and I live in a small town called Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania. I am 22 and I live with my golden retriever, Sam, in a two-bedroom apartment. My mom and stepdad live in California and my grandmother lives down the street. My life is anything but normal, but I never expected it to take a turn for the worse.
"Sam! Come and eat girl." I called out to my dog as I went to sit down with a piece of toast and coffee in my hands.
"What am I going to wear today Sam?"
I got up from the table, wiping the crumbs off my hands, and head into the bedroom. On the bed, I had a blue knitted dress that came up to my knees, some black boots, my favorite jeans, and my black cardigan. I chose the pants and went into the bathroom to get ready. I curled my hair and put on my jewelry, sweater, and shoes.
"Sam," she looked up at me with her big brown eyes ", be a good girl for me while I'm at work." I hugged her and went out the door.
I walked towards my red Jeep, parked on the other side of the street, and drove to work.
I pulled into Howl's dining spot parking lot, looked in the mirror one more time, and headed inside for work. I always ask myself, why are you a waitress? I could've gone to school and became a doctor like my parents wanted me to but it didn't suit me, besides being a waitress keeps my bills paid and I don't have to take off my clothes.
"Morning Gale," Gale is a very attractive brunette who has been married four times and has three kids ", how are the kids?"
"A pain in my ass but they're good, they miss you."
"Aww I miss those little monsters too, I'll come by and visit."
I head to the back to put on my yellow and red, short, and ugly uniform. On my way out I see my boss writing something down.
"Hi Howl." I smiled.
"Hey Paris, how's everything?" he asked.
"Everything is good." I say while grabbing my book so I can take orders.
"Good morning Paris!"
"Good morning Neil." Neil is a customer that has been coming here for a while now, but it's only to see me. Don't get me wrong Neil is the ideal man for a regular woman, but I'm not regular and he's not my type.
"Will it be the usual?" I asked.
"Yes, but Paris," he grabbed my arm before I could walk away.
"Yea?" I asked cautiously.
"When are you gonna let me take you out?"
"Neil, I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not." he asked questionably.
"Well... I'm very busy and I..." before I could answer Gale calls me.
"Thank you." I mouth to her.
"No problem, I saw you struggling."
The rest of the day was passing by quickly, just when I thought I was done working someone came in the door.
"Hi." the guy said but I was too exhausted to say it back.
I looked up from my book and realized that I have never seen him around before.
"You must be new." I said.
"Yeah, I just moved here."
The guy was very handsome, especially when he smiled this dazzling smile. He had chiseled features and was wearing a blue striped shirt with some jeans. He was nice looking but I figured that he was gay.
"You're gonna love this town." I say sarcastically. He chuckles, a sexy deep laugh from his throat.
"What do you want?" I ask politely.
"To talk to you, you're interesting."
Or maybe he's not gay. Normally, I would walk away from the guys that hit on me, but there's something about him that seems different and I don't know if it's good or bad.
"Well I'm working now, and it gets very busy around here."
There were only three people in here and the drunk guy passed out in the back didn't count.
"How about you let me take you out for coffee after you get off." He smiled.
Out of all the girls in this place he chooses to talk to me, I'm 5'2 with long black hair and a decent amount of cleavage, but not as filled out as Lisa, the other waitress, or Gale.
"No thanks buddy, I'm not that easy ."
"Please." he smiled that wonderful smile again.
This dude was being really persistent.
"Fine, but I'm warning you I have mace. Meet me in thirty minutes."
"Alright, I'll be back later then."
After this strange guy left, the rest of the night went by fast. When the last customer left, I went into the locker room and took off my apron and my uniform. I went to the mirror and started fixing my hair when I noticed a mark on my neck that I've never seen before. Maybe I'm just so tired that I'm seeing things, so I ignore it.
"Good night Howl." I called into his office.
"Night Paris, be safe." he said while not looking away from his computer.
"I will." I said while leaving to go to the front door.
As I step outside a gust of wind blows by making me shiver. I looked around and saw no one, so I head to my car.
"Hi." I jump right out of my socks and drop my car keys.
"Jesus, are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
"I'm sorry." he said with that deep mysterious voice as he picks up my keys and hands them to me.
"Where did you come from?," I must really be exhausted," what the hell are you a vampire or something?" I say laughing at that ridiculous question.
"Yes I'm a vampire, the name is Josh Hudson." he bows in front of me.
This guy was really off his meds. Way to go Paris, you got yourself a keeper.
"And I'm the wicked witch of the west. Come on, do you think I would believe you're a vampire?"
He shows me his fangs and for a moment I hesitated.
"Are you gonna suck my blood?"
"Are you going to tell me your name?"
"Paris, Paris Johnson."
"No Paris, I'm not going to suck your blood but I would still like to take you out for coffee.
"I thought vampires don't..." he cut me off mid-sentence.
"We don't but I still want to take you out."
I gave up seeing as I would grow old and alone if I didn't try new things or if I kept pushing people away, and maybe this would be a crazy twilight thing.
"Ok, let's go."
I get into his black Ford pickup truck and we drive until we come across Mcdon's Drive or Dine. Josh parks in the second parking spot by the door, he come over to my side and opens the door for me. Boy was I glad that I didn't wear that dress today.
"Thank you." I smiled politely.
