'In my mind I sit here and wait. For a friend or family member to give me a break. I breath in and breath out. Then I remember all my doubt.' Tyler wrote in a journal the doctors gave him when he arrived. He was okay with being in a mental institution as long as he was away home and school. Yet Tyler did regret how he got himself there. He closed his journal and went to the social room. He was in pajamas because he couldn't feel the effort in putting on day clothes. He sat down by the window and watched the trees move with the autumn wind. Leaves were falling with beautiful warm colors. He always enjoyed Fall, but he dreaded the Winter coming. He heard the doors open from behind him. In the reflection of the window he could see a bright blue haired boy walk in with a doctor and a nurse. He was holding a bag and a pillow. A rather generic thing to walk in with. He looked scared and nervous. He most likely felt like he didn't belong here. Tyler wished he could feel the same. They took the blue haired boy off to his room. The doctor and nurse smiled and said comforting things about the institute. Tyler focused on the trees again.
Tyler woke up with the sun shining intensely on his face. He scrunched his eyes and rested on his bed for a moment. He then looked at the time and saw it was rather early in the morning. He decided to go out to the social room to look at the dying trees.
When he got their he saw the blue haired boy in his spot by the window. He was looking at the trees. Tyler was nervous to approach him so he stood there for a moment. The blue haired boy then turned to see Tyler. They met eyes and the blue haired boy spoke. "I saw you sitting here. I like trees too. My name is Josh nice to meet you." Josh held his hand out. Tyler walked up to his new acquaintance and shook his hand. "My name is Tyler, why are you here?" Tyler asked not really thinking of how that question sounded. Josh looked at him for a moment with slight embarrassment. He then mumbled "self harm and a suicide attempt." Tyler stood silent for a moment then said in a upper tone "smae." Josh looked at him puzzled then realized he meant 'same'. They giggled and decided to talk and watch the trees. As time went by it became colder and Tyler and Josh's friendship grew. They would talk about happy moments in their life's or what they had scheduled for the day. Usually their schedules were rather empty unless they had appointments with their doctors.
They eventually decided to make a hand shake. They worked on it every moment they had time together. The handshake grew longer and more complicated the more they worked on it. Others near by liked to watch them when they did it, but they were not to fond of most people there. It reminded them both of school sometimes.
