CHAPTER 1: A New Place
Stan's [P.O.V]
"So this is Detroit i guess..."
I thought to myself as i look out the car window, looking on the dirty, gloomy city. My parent's were very obviously trying to make the best of a really lame situation. I could read the expression on my mom's face, as we passed 3 homeless people on the street as they gave us the evil eye. Probably because our car was nicer then 90% of anything in Detroit A.K.A the dump capital. Suddenly, my dad broke the awkward silence.
"So Stan...you know's, you might get to meet your favorite rapper here... Eminem?"
He smiled as he struggled to get his name right.
"So?"
I told him in a rather annoyed tone. Finally my mom spoke up,
"Stanley! don't disrespect your father"
My dad intervened on the situation
"Now honey...i understand his frustration" he paused for effect, and continued
"I know it's not going to be easy adjusting to this... big, new city"
"Even if it's a city at all" I mummbled to myself.
"Look kiddo, i moved from New York to Cali when i was your age and it pissed me off to the point of no return, but i got ajusted to it, and besides...we'll see everyone from California again i promise"
It felt like it was an empty promise though, because his tone seemed unsure.
We arrived to our new house around 4 PM on August 27th. It was hot out, so i proceeded to try and get into the new house as soon as possible. People were moving boxes in the house, as i made my way upstairs to my new room. One of the big men handed me a box, which contained some of my favorite things back from California. I opened up the box to find a picture of me and my old friends, back from Compton. I would try to make the best of things, but i was really going to miss all my homies.
After all the moving trucks left, we went out to Taco bell to get some food. I got my favorite, the taco. While we were eating, A man walked over asking us for money. While we had some on us the man looked suspicious, so my dad told a white lie. When he left, i asked why he didn't give him anything...even if i knew what the answer is. He sighed and responded
"Because... I worry"
After a silence, he said
"C'mon, lets go to our new home, you have to go to school tomarrow"
I nodded and followed with the family. One thing was for sure...I did not see at all what was coming next.
