- Alex-Marie's POV -

I placed my hand flat against my swollen stomach, taking another deep breath as I faced the tall iron gates.

This is it.

I sighed and headed towards the gates, pressing the little call button on the intercom box.

"Hello?" The crackly voice came through, startling me from my little daydream.

"Erm, hello? I'm here to see Dr. Martin?" I squeaked, pulling my dark hair around my shoulders.

"Name?" The voice was definitely feminine, maybe his assistant?

"A-alex-Marie Walker." I replied, stumbling over my words slightly.

"Come in." As she spoke, a dull humming sound came from the intercom box, the gates swinging open.

"Thank you." I mumbled before walking through the gate, towards the door marked 'reception'.

I walked through, looking behind the desk just in time to see the tall blonde woman point down the corridor before returning to her photocopying.

Walking down the corridor, I chose not to pay attention to all the medical certificates hanging in golden frames along the length of the corridor.

I knocked softly on the large oak door at the end of the hall, placing my hand back on my stomach, a sort of soothing action now.

"Come on in." Came the muffled reply from the other side of the thick wooden door.

Gripping the brass handle, I took another deep breath and turned, pushing the door open before stepping inside.

Around the room were more certificates, all hung in golden frames on every wall, just like the corridor. A long, dark brown leather therapist style couch was pushed right up against the right wall, directly under a large window, covered by a deep purple and gold patterned curtain.

On the left wall was a cupboard, most probably containing all of the medical supplies Dr. Martin would need.

My eyes finally found my way to the dark oak desk in front of me. Pens, paper and photo frames scattered the desks large surface, making it appear cluttered, but in reality, it was tidier than most places I'd seen.

Sat on a high-backed burgundy chair behind the desk sat an oldish man, around mid-40's, early 50's maybe. His pale blue eyes were warm and inviting, kind and friendly, I found myself smiling slightly at him. His dark grey eyebrows raised up above his hair line, disappearing into his white-grey hair as he looked me up and down, wondering why I was here no doubt.

"Alex-Marie Walker, I presume?" His voice was so soft, yet practically demanded authority. I was already gaining a lot of respect for this man I'd known for all but 2 minutes, and I knew right then that he was perfect.

"Yes," I spoke confidently as I sat down in the chair offered to me. "I was wondering if I could ask a really big favour of you Dr. Martin."

He looked shocked for a moment, but soon recovered. "Go on." He urged, waving his hand around impatiently.

I sighed, rolling my eyes at him. "I want you to look after my child, when she's born of course. But still, it has to be you." I stated, resting my hand over my stomach again, making small circles on the top of my bump with my forefinger.

Again, he looked shocked, but this time it took him longer to recover. "You want me, me? Why me? I hardly know you, child."

"That's the beauty of it!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands in the air in my blatant excitement. "No one will realise, I can go home and live a normal life, away from this baby. I know you'll look after her, I've heard great things about you Dr. Martin. I can't look after a child, heck, I can barely look after myself! Don't think of it as doing a favour for a young girl you just met, think of it like you're giving a home to a poor, vulnerable baby."

"Are you sure?" He looked sceptical, not sure what to do around the seemingly crazy girl sat before him.

"Positive." I whispered.

"Okay." He sighed, running a slightly wrinkled hand down his face.

I jumped from my seat, clapping my hands together once, a happy grin on my face.

"You won't regret this!" I chirped, watching as his blue eyes changed from weary to amused in a split second.

In about a month, everything will go back to the way it was.

I waved goodbye to Dr. Martin, heading back out the way I had come.

I was doing the right thing. For me, for this baby, for everyone.

I was sure of it.
