This is a very touchy subject and I feel I ened to give my opinion on this. The problem I have with "cultural appropiation" is that people do not take the time to learn about that aspect of the given culture that they wish to use. And they also need to be respectful and NOT racist.
I don't really care if some white girl wants to wear box braids or dreads in her hair or not, the way she goes about it is what bothers me; for example this asshole of a white girl had the aduacity to call the box braids in her own head "ghetto" I believe she said something like "I'm ghetto fabuolous" or some dumb shit like that, you get my point, not only was it an ignorant statement it was racist as hell.
And if you're going to wear dreads for gods sake please wash your stinky nasty ass hair, just because you have dreads doesn't mean that you don't wash your goddamned hair. Also for the LOVE OF GOD keep it fucking NEAT holy shit, nothing is more bothersome than ugly dreads I swear to god.
And other traditional wear such as a Native American headdress(?) do NOT wear it, it is only for the chief of a Native American tribe, be respecful with the Hijab, and geisha wear, and bindis please please please please do your research, I've done my own research on bindis and they're really cool(I'll make another post about this if you guys think I should). Also please dont be disrespectful to Latinos and Latinas, Asians, and all POC.
Under no circumstances are you to do black face, brown face, yellow face, or red face, none of that. Keep your facial complexion just the way it is, "What if I tan or get tanned by the sun or Im naturally tan?!" Don't worry I love getting tan as much as the next person, you're fine☺️
Also just give credit where it's due I hate when news articles are like "OMG LOOK AT THIS NEW HACK!" And they know good and damn well that black people having been using it for YEARS
So I just sit here like
GIVE FUCKING CREDITAnd if you're not sure/confused about doing research about these different cultures ask your POC friends, and if you don't have any... well go and get some!
I honestly believing merging cultures and learning from one another. But don't just wear a garment of clothing from a different culture than yours cause you just feel like it, you must LEARN.
The next post will be on the discussion on the word nigga.
