She was 14, only 14 when her mother abandoned her. Honestly, she wasn't that upset. She was only more angry and disappointed . She couldn't get it through her head how a mother can abandoned her only child that she had left. How could a mother leave a child so vulnerable all by herself knowing perfectly well everything she went through.

A letter. A small fucking letter written on some old piece paper that had a coffee stain in the corner was all it took to change Nights whole life from bad to worse.

Night was the kind of girl that hid a million emotions behind one sweet smile. As soon as she got home that smile would vanish as quickly as blowing out a candle. It was just another day, like any old day, she expected to see her mother sleeping on the floor in the living room, all hungover from being drunk the day before. She wasn't overly happy that day. It was the last day of school, after all, meaning Night will have to spend a whole summer with her cold-hearted mother.

Instead, she found the letter. All by itself on a surprisingly bottle free table. All it contained was a goodbye. Just one word. No explanation or anything. That was it.

Night didn't t cry that day, instead she stayed calm. She didn't want to show any sign of weakness even when she was all by herself.

All night she thought about how could her mother leave her and why just like that? She didn't even leave money or information of where she was going. How dare her? So many people want to have children and can't and she does this to a child that she was supposed to bring up with love and care. She was blessed with the opportunity to have a child and she does this. Really? What was wrong with her? After all those years of abuse and she goes ahead and pulls off this stunt? After they went through hell and back, Night always by her side ready to catch her mother if she fell, she does this to her?

Immediately after she had read the letter that had changed her life, she started to formulate a plan. She knew she was going to be taken into foster care if she didn't act quickly. So from that day on she started to slowly isolate herself from all the friends she had, which weren't many. She had to stay head strong if she was going to survive all by herself in this brutal world.

She noticed she was shivering, after reading the letter many times, as it fell out of her hands and landed on the scratched wooden floor, taken with it all of Nights hopes for a better future. And when it finally reached the floor, breaking them all apart into tiny pieces that will need time to be put back together. She finally realized how alone she was. She realized she was on her own.
