When Amethyst was a kid her mom died after childbirth so she spent time with her dad who was an archeologist and he believed there was something more in each stone than minerals. he bedeviled that each stone had an aura, but no one would listen and said he was crazy. One day she went with her dad into the mines and he had a fancy gadget that could detect stone aura and he found this massive reading and she ran ahead him and he tried to stop her because that much radiation should've killed her.
It didn't.
Suddenly a the cave had a huge shift. The rocks were closing in and his daughter was laying there with a pounding head. He scooped her up and grabbed a few supplies so he could save the stone. He knew that that stone had combined with her and if it was crushed she would perish. He grabbed the only thing he had. His very first find ever an old rickety key in his attic, which got him interested in archeology in the first place. It was already on a necklace so he carefully hammered a piece of the stone into the key, put it around her neck, and as soon as the last hole closed he pushed her out. She grew up never knowing her place in the world.
