I was driving on a mid Sunday afternoon, it was rainy and cold outside. The rain drops splattered against my windshield, as I tried to focus my eyes on the road. My music was turned all the way up, it was peaceful and gave good vibes to me on this bitter day. I still remember the song that was playing, Sunset Lover by Petit Biscuit. It was my favorite song, I could never get sick of it. It constantly played over and over again wherever I went, as long as I controlled the auxiliary cord (aux cord). The song was blasting though my car, its catchy tune made me calm, made me sane. I continued driving down the large twisty hill on the way to my parents' anniversary party, when my phone made a ding sound. I picked up my phone and attempted to look at who was texting me as I also tried to keep my eyes on the road. Eventually I gave up on this process and put my phone back down, I was getting nowhere with reading the text. I continued to listen to my song and drive down the road, when my phone started to ring. I picked it up and swiped to answer the call, it was my mother.
"Hey mom! I'm on my way."
"Oh, hi darling! The party won't start for another hour, and the roads are quite bad out there. Are you sure you're okay with driving by yourself here?" She responded with her calming voice. My mother always had that trait, to keep her calm voice even when she was worried about me or one of my two other siblings.
"Yes mom, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me, I'm okay!" I responded, she can't be stressed on a day like this. It was her anniversary! It should be a happy day for her.
"Okay honey! Hey, would you mind sending me more pictures of your dog once you stop? I miss the little guy so much!"
"Yes mom, I will."
"Okay dear! See you soon!"
"Love you mom."
"Love you too!"
I hung up. My phone was still on, so I decided it would be best for me to just send her the pictures now, I knew I wouldn't remember otherwise. My eyes shifted from the road to my phone, selecting all the photos of my new puppy to send to her. Once I had what I thought was almost all of them selected, I tried to fumble my fingers around to find the button to send the photos, and type in "mom" at the top of the screen. I hit send.
Ring ring, another call from my mom.
"Hey, mom! Just sent the pictures, now I'm about five minutes away."
"Okay! Just checking in on you, wanted to make sure you were fine!" She always worried about me, if her words didn't show it her eyes always did.
"Yes mom I'm fi-"
I was cut off by my car slipping, the wheels turning, the whole vehicle sliding off of the road. I was completely out of control of my car, the wheel turning without me moving my wrists. I grabbed onto the wheel, yanked it to the right as strong as possible, pushing my foot on the brakes to the point where it might smash through the front. I saw headlights. Bright headlights coming right for me.
"Honey? Honey are you okay?" My mom asked frantically, this was the first time I had ever heard her sound worried in her voice. And that terrified me.
"Mom! I love y-" I was cut off my the car ahead of me smashing into mine, the airbags flying at me from all directions. Glass, glass shards being lodged into my skin from the windshield and windows. Pain was searing through my body as I was thrown around my car.
Suddenly, it stopped. All I heard was a slight buzzing noise, almost the sound you hear when you yawn, in my blood covered ears. My eyes closed slowly, slowly.
"Sweetheart?! Are you alright?! Oh, honey what happened?" My mom exclaimed.
Then I blacked out, only seeing death coming for me.
The bright light was coming closer, closer to me. He reached out to grab my hand, to bring me with him. I lifted my arm to give it to him, I wanted the pain to be over. I wanted everything to be over.
Soon, it was. It was all over. Everything.
