Prologue

My family consists of my mother, father, five younger sisters and myself, Abraham Dexter, better known as Abe.

At the age of six my whole world had gone haywire, but that was two years prior to now. Nobody could trust one another anymore while the rebel leaders concocted their plan to override the government. We all lived in constant fear of being captured into their forces and being forced to work, fight and become murderers.

That was until that fear became a reality two years later.

That day they came in numbers. I had heard of them obliterating mining towns around the country, but always been too blind to realise that it meant me. I was gong to be apart of it all whether I wanted to or not. First they burnt our house. Then they captured me. I was eight at the time. Then my father was taken and put into another van. I assumed he was take to work in the diamond mines like many others, he was a skilled miner after all.

A gun was thrust into my hands, too heavy for my young, innocent arms. I never saw who gave it to me. One by one my sisters were hung out to be murdered like it was actually right. All the while my mother pleaded for them to be spared, knowing that it would be her next. I watched all of them die right in front of me. It might as well have been my own hand that delayed them. With every shot I lost something from inside me. My poor innocent little sisters. But what could I do? I was selfish enough to watch my own family die in front of me, the dearest people to me that ever existed. I still scavenged for my life, knowing that if I disobeyed we the rebels they would drug me like so many others before me. I might have been eight, but I ready had a very clever mind. And abnormally clever mind. I would survive this. That instinct told me to sit still, watch as they died with my lips sealed. That move is what got me here.
