"Ally, come on, it'll be fun!" I beg through the phone. "Just imagine all the cotton candy, the rides, and the funhouses."
"The clowns are the reason I don't want to go!" Ally replied.
Ally is deathly afraid of clowns, and I have known this ever since kindergarten when I had a clown at my birthday and she ran out of my house screaming. It doesn't help with all this "killer clown" stuff on social media. She afraid to even walk to school alone.
"Ally, the killer clowns are fake, and if you want we don't even have to see them if it makes you uncomfortable." I say in a reassuring tone.
"You know what?" Ally begins in a resigned voice. "I think I'll go just so everyone will leave me alone!"
I can't help the eagerness in my voice, "Great! See you at 8:00." And with that, I hung up the phone.
