The lunch bell rings, finally signalling the end of my torturous English class. I rush out, agitated, and survey the area for my target. I need this to be done and over with as fast as possible.
When I finally spot him in triumph, I rearrange my features into what I hope seems like a sad smile.
"Andy?"
"Oh, hi babe," he replies, his trademark mega-watt grin plastered across his face. I feel pity course through me but I push it to the back of my mind. Girls like you don't have time for pity.
When he leans in to place a chaste kiss on my lips, I swiftly turn my head the other way, drawing in a deep breath.
This part's always the hardest, isn't it?
I watch as the smile slips off his face and a frown takes over it instead. "Are you okay? Is something wrong?"
"I can't do this anymore Andy. I can't do us anymore. I'm sorry Andy." I place a hand on his shoulder and he flinches. "I think, even if we try, this'll go nowhere. You understand, don't you?"
"But we were doing so well. I-I love you! We can try, right babe, we can-"
Boys, they're all the same.
"No Andy, we can't," I snap, finally dropping the act. "You're too nice and girls like me don't last with boys like you. Goodbye Andy."
I purse my lips, turn briskly and stalk off towards the canteen, praying that he doesn't follow me. Lucky for him, he doesn't.
The girls, as expected, are eagerly awaiting my arrival and they start spitting out questions - so fast, that they sound like SMGs. (wya @ gun control in america???)
"How did he react?"
"What did you say?"
"What happened after?"
I giggle, basking in the attention for a while, before I give them their answers. "It went fantastic actually. Bloody brilliant. Definitely faster than John." I know it seemed cruel, but I couldn't help the wide smile that etched itself onto my face.
The girls groan. "Come on Lotte, we need more details!"
"Well girls, all I can say is that I've done Andy over, so it's time for you lot to pay up." A wicked grin takes over my face as I eagerly anticipate the feel of cold, hard-earned cash in my hands.
Groaning, the girls hand me thirty dollars each. I sigh in bliss as I double count my newly acquired ninety bucks.
To my surprise, Bianca's face is painted with a smirk instead of a frown and it doesn't take long to figure out why.
"How about this?" She asks devilishly. "As your next target, you'll have Link Bradbury."
"Link Bradbury? As in the student body president Link Bradbury? As in, the honour roll Link Bradbury? The soccer team's vice-captain Link Bradbury? The-"
Bianca's shoots me her famous look of doom, causing me to stop short. She rolls her eyes as if asking, how many Link Bradburys do you know?
I squirm uncomfortably in my seat. I never backed down from a challenge but even a fool could see that this was impossible.
Link Bradbury was out of my league. In fact, he was out of everyone's league. Let's just say that he was special. Special as in covered in glitter and confetti and everything else disgustingly lovely.
Link was far from the stereotypical jock. Like I've said, he was the vice-captain of the soccer team and he made the honour roll without fail every year. The funny thing was, he wasn't an egotistical, stuck up narcissist, but he was actually a nerd.
I mean, he's an actual nerd, who had legit LAN parties with his nerdy friends and god knows, he probably had Star Wars marathons with them too.
With his intelligence, beauty and reservation, it's almost impossible to get close to him.
The even funnier thing about Link was that he didn't know how beautiful he was. In fact, he was completely oblivious to it as well as the girls that it attracted.
With his lean yet muscular physique, sharp jaw and perfectly tousled honey blonde hair, it was way too easy for him to get girls (if he actually tried). Not to forget, he also had stunning eyes which were a mix of cerulean blue and sea-foam green. It was rumored that you could even see silver or green specks if you got close enough.
So how would he see me any different? In fact he would see me as something terrible!
It was no secret that my dress sense leaned towards gothic. I wore my thick, raccoon-like eyeliner to school proudly and my clothes were usually almost always on the darker side. For the same reason, I became undesirable. They all thought being goth was summed up by xxx's one line - you know, the one that goes "my emo bitch likes her wrists slit", yeah, that one. As if being goth meant that you were depressed, part of an occult or anything remotely satanic.
This brought me back to the matter at hand. How did Bianca expect me to seduce Link? With my fucking raccoon eye makeup? Perhaps my stripper-like fishnet tights?
"Bu- But that's fucking impossible! I'm pretty sure he hasn't touched a girl the whole time we've known him. Heck, I'm not even sure if he likes girls!"
Bianca shrugs, nonchalant. "Well, Lotte, if you do get it done, we'll get you a lip piercing and a tattoo. And of course we'll pay - seventy bucks each."
I frown and no, not because Bianca had offered up so much money as a prize. I wasn't worried about that at all, Bianca, Stacy and Candance were all absolutely filthy rich. A few hundred dollars meant nothing to them.
I ponder over her tempting words. "And what happens if I lose?"
"Nothing." My eyes widen in surprise. Nothing? Then I truly didn't have anything to lose. And anyways, I had been longing for another piercing since my helix had closed up. I stood up, getting ready to leave for AP Chemistry.
"Add another fifty bucks and it's game on Bianca. I'll have him begging for me in no time." Man, I was so going to win. I think.
"Oh and by fifty bucks, I meant fifty from each of you!" I holler at her as I sashay out of the canteen.
A lip piercing, a small tattoo and three hundred and sixty bucks. And almost nothing to lose! What could go wrong?
