Chapter Two

Two weeks earlier, Mycroft was on his way to his office carrying a folder. Inside the folder were the papers he needed to prove Marcus Adams was guilty of fraud, theft, and murder. Mycroft had been after Marcus ever since Marcus had cheated his way out of going to prison for a crime he had obviously committed. Mycroft almost had the jury convinced that Marcus was guilty when a supposed witness said that he had seen Marcus on the other side of town when the crime was happening.

Mycroft knew the witness was lying, but couldn't convince the jury of it. On his way out, Marcus stopped and whispered to Mycroft; "You better forget about this case if you know what's good for you." Mycroft said nothing. He wasn't about to let this man get away with murder. He needed more proof. This folder was his proof.

Mycroft had spies everywhere. He knew one of them had to have seen Marcus near the scene of the murder. He was right. One spy had been sitting at an outdoor table of a caffe across the street from where the murder had happened. He saw a suspicious looking man enter the building, a hotel, behind a frightened looking woman. The spy snapped a couple pictures of him, knowing that if he were right and this man was up to something, the pictures could be used as evidence.

"I need proof of Marcus Adams' guilt.
-MH"
Was the text sent to the spy soon after the trial ended. Mycroft then took a cab to the bank in the centre of the city. He walked around back to a dumpster in the alley used as a pick up location for Mycroft and his spies when they needed to share secret information. Mycroft slid his hand behind the dumpster into a secret compartment and pulled out a folder. Inside were the pictures taken by the spy of Marcus at the hotel.

Mycroft hailed a cab and got in. A man climbed in quickly behind him before the cab could drive away. Mycroft suspected he was an accomplice of Marcus but didn't show any recognition. "Take me to 1st Street." The gruff voiced man said to the cabby. "And you," he turned to Mycroft, "say goodnight, buddy." With that he took a cloth from his pocket and shoved it toward Mycroft's face. Mycroft was ready for this and tried to block the man, but he was overpowered. Within seconds of the cloth reaching his nose, Mycroft was asleep.
