Chapter One

So seven years ago my father died. My mother was heavily pregnant at the time with triplets, I mean being pregnant is stressful, being pregnant with triplets is even worse, and then to have the love of your life die whilst all that is going on messes you up. I know because I was there. I was eight and had to hold my mothers hand whilst she pushed my brothers into the world.

My mother died two years ago and me and my brothers were taken into care. I haven't seen them for six months but I spoke to them on the phone three days ago. We are slowly losing contact though.

I live with my foster parents in a small town in England. The only way life could be perfect was if they were my real parents and my brothers were here, but otherwise it is.

I was taking the grocery bags to the front door when the boy next door tapped me on the shoulder and asked if he could speak with me. I had replied sure but I had to get the bags in first. He then took five bags in each hand and carried them through the open front door to the kitchen. He then pulled me into the garden.

"So," he began. "My cousin likes the look of you, and wants to know you but is a bit scared to approach you. So I had the idea you come for tea tonight. Of course, he was too scared to ask you himself so I have that task. So?"

"Sure," I smiled and went back into the house, though I watched him jump over the fence as if it was a small garden fence instead of six foot tall.

Later that night I put on some black skinny jeans, with a white t-shirt and some black converse all stars. I then curled my hair slightly and put on some natural make-up. I might as well look good for this mystery boy, he might be fit!

I knocked on the green door and Mrs Green answered. She invited me in and guided me to the dining room where everyone was sitting, maybe waiting? I glanced around the table for a boy I didn't recognize but I didn't see anyone I hadn't already met.

"He is very nervous and he is still getting ready," Mr Green explained, noticing me looking around. I nodded and sat to Michael. I assumed I was sitting there as there were two seats next to him, and they were the only free seats.

Then footsteps were heard on the stairs and a boy came into the room. He was wearing a shirt with the top button undone and some smart jeans. He also had on some smart, white trainers. His hair had been combed he smelt strongly of Lynx (men's deodorant).

He had dark brown hair, and perfect green eyes. His muscles were showing through his shirt and he had a small smile on his face.

I think if I had looked at him a second longer my jaw would have dropped. I was surprised it hadn't already.

"H-h-h-hi. My n-n-n-name-me i-i-is Jamie," he stuttered.

"Hi, I'm Katie," I said to him as he sat down next to me. Mrs Green then brought tea in, which was a shepherds pie with lots of carrots and runner beans and peas all around. She served it all up and we dug in. Nobody really talked, except for "pass the salt please" and "this is delicious".

After we had had the raspberry pavlova for dessert I stood up to go.

"I'll walk you," Jamie stood up as well.

"I'm just next door, I'll be fine," I laughed, but he insisted on walking me. So I let him grab his jacket and then we left.

When we got to the front door, which took twenty seconds, he kissed me on the cheek.

"You didn't do that right," I smiled.

"Pardon?" a look of confusion came onto his face.

"Come here," I said as I pulled his face towards mine and kissed him properly. He kissed me back and I leant against the wall, pulling him closer towards me. After a minute or so we both pulled away at the same time, breathless. But only because Michael was calling him. Jamie then ran off, but before he went through the front door he looked across to me and grinned.
