"Same shit, different day." Andy grumbled to himself as he leaned against the back of his house. He reached into the pocket of his leather jacket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. Withdrawing one with his slender fingers, he placed the cigarette between his lips and lit it. As he let the smoke roll from his parted lips, he sighed to himself. "Why do I even bother anymore? It's not like I'm actually going to graduate..." he grumbled. His teacher had spoken to him after class again today, he caught Andy scribbling away at his notebook instead of paying attention during history class again.
"I'm sorry, I was bored.." was his simple explanation, however Mr. White didn't want any part of it. He informed him that he'd be contacting his mother after school and that he'd discuss the consequences with him on Monday after school. He nodded and left the school grumbling to himself the whole way home. Today was Friday, the only night that he actually got to be free before he had to take on his responsibilities at home.
Andy snapped out of his thoughts as he took another drag from the cigarette between his lips. He exhaled slowly, blowing little rings of smoke.
"ANDREW DENNIS BIERSACK WHERE ARE YOU?!" a female voice called from inside the house.
He sighed as he tried to put the cigarette out before she'd find him. He threw it to the ground, stomping it out quickly as his mother opened the back door. "THERE YOU ARE!" she shouted, her cheeks reddened slightly.
"Hi mom.." he said calmly.
"I just got off the phone with your history teacher Mr. White... He said that you haven't been paying attention in his class lately.. And that you're failing..." She snapped. He sighed, moving his raven colored bangs out of his eyes. "I hate that class mom... I can't focus on all that boring stuff.." he replied.
His mother stepped outside and looked up at the tall boy, her blonde hair pulled up in a pony tail. Her blue eyes glowing with frustration.
"What do you mean you can't focus? Andy.. you need to pay attention in class or you won't pass. Then you won't be able to graduate... And I know that there's no way in hell that I moved you all the way out here to Los Angeles just for you to screw around in school young man!" She scolded, her glasses falling down the bridge of her nose slightly.
Andy knew better than to talk back to his mother. He sighed, "I'm sorry mom.. It's just really hard with my adhd.." he replied.
She shook her head and sighed. "I just want you to try harder Andy.." She said, her voice filled with disappointment.
"I will... I promise.." He replied, looking into her piercing blue eyes with his own. He wrapped his long arms around his mother and pulled her into an embrace. "I'm sorry mom.. I love you..." He said.
She smiled a little as she rested her head against her son. They both stood there temporarily in silence, Andy thought to himself that he was going to get through this without any problems. Until, his mother looked up at him with her nose wrinkled up. "Andrew Dennis... why on earth do you smell like cigarette smoke?" She asked sternly. Andy looked at her and quickly thought of a reply.
"I let my friend borrow my jacket and I just got it back to day." he responded quickly. He hoped that she'd buy his lie.. For now.
Amy looked up at her son with narrowed eyes. "Empty your pockets..." she demanded.
Andy sighed, reaching into the pockets of his leather jacket, pulling out the pack of cigarettes and lighter along with his cell phone and house keys.
"Andrew! Why on earth do you have cigarettes in your pocket?" she shouted.
He sighed looking down at his feet. "They're mine.." he replied softly.
She put his hand underneath his chin and brought his face up so that their eyes met. "How long have you been smoking behind my back?" She asked, her voice cold as ice.
"Six months.." he replied.
She shook her head and sighed. "Andrew, you're grounded.. No friends, no internet, no tv, and you're not allowed to leave the house tonight."
Andy sighed and grabbed his jacket, sulking as he walked inside the house.
