In a dark part of a deep forest, the smell of the wet dew of a new day hung in the air, wildlife scurried around frantically at the sound of approaching footsteps. Through the trees, two figures appeared walking along a faint dirt path back toward their hidden home within the foliage.

A black cat with blue sapphire eyes stood tall next to a smaller figure as the two walked together. Wearing a black cloak around her slender form that concealed her icy blue dress, she wiped her white muzzle clean of the remnants from her blood feast with an old, but useful, handkerchief.

With a smile on her face, the feline looked at her younger 'sister.' "Well... you did good for catching a few squirrels today, sis." she said with a small giggle.

The younger of the two, an auburn hedgehog with chocolate brown eyes tinted with a soft red color, scoffed back at her immortal sister. It wasn't her faded black pants or worn out blue top, but the dark brown cloak that hid away the small smile she was hiding.

"Just because you managed to snag a dear doesn't give you the right to pity my inexperience." she replied back to her sister as she wiped her blood spotted muzzle off on her sleeve.

The black cat chuckled. "I know, but picking on you is very enjoyable." She let out a slight laugh as her sister gave her an annoyed glare. "But," she continued with a smile toward the hedgehog. "You are getting better."

The auburn hedgehog simply shrugged. "I guess." She tilted her head down a bit before continuing. "Heh, I wasn't the most athletic person back before you bit me. You of all people would know that." The younger sister looked in her friend's direction. "You were my best friend all those years ago."

The black cat looked forward as they continued walking home. "We were, weren't we." She paused and her look softened as she finished. "But I had no choice..." Her fluffy ears drooped sadly. "I couldn't let you go... I didn't want to do that to you, but I had no choice..." The feline looked back at her sister. "You understand that what I did was best for you, right? Even if you are not what you used to be."

The red head looked forward and down again, staying quiet for a few moments. "Alyssa?" she finally asked.

Alyssa's ears perked up at the sound of her sister's voice. "Yes, Ashley?"

After another few moments of silence, Ashley asked, "Why DID you bite me? You never actually told me. Nor do I even remember the couple of days before, and after, the bite."

The black cat looked forward and replied with a softer tone. "Well... I guess..." she began. "I was so lonely being the only vampire around. I wanted someone to be with me. And you were the only one there that I wanted to be with for a much longer time." She looks back at Ashley from the corner of her eye. "Does that answer your question?"

The hedgehog just shrugged. "Yeah, I guess." She silently thought to herself for a moment. "How long ago was it again?" she asked her sister.

With a sweat drop, Alyssa sighed quietly as she thought. "Whew. Well, I think it was... about thirty years ago? Maybe twenty?"

Ashley thought through it for a minute. "Sounds about right." She smiles sadly as she continued. "I bet all our old friends think we're dead."

Alyssa nodded slightly. "Yeah... but I'm okay with it being that way."

The red head sighed. "I guess. Anyway, I can see our house and the sky is already starting to grow light." she pointed out.

Alyssa looked up to see the house and the beginning of dawn. "Good thing we're here. I'd hate to think what would happen if we are out any later."

"Well, we would just have to use our cloaks a bit more intuitively." Ashley just smiled. Even though she was younger and less experienced with the vampire stuff, her knowledge surpassed her sister's immensely... and Ashley knew that well.
