Thrain
She was shaking as I approached her. I could smell the fear coming from her. I didn't know what she looked like when I took her from her family, but....just... wow. She had a long mane of chestnut hair. Certain strands stood out, some were almost an auburn others looked like she had midnight locked up in her hair, and others are light golden brown, like wheat. She wore a black shirt that was too big for her, and a pair of old and well worn grey pants. She looked smaller then I thought she was. Trust me, when you carry someone for an hour or 2 you would think that you know how big a person is. Must have been the blankets. She had so many. Her back was to me so I could see the writing on the back of her tee. Written in blue and green the title read 'top ten reasons I swim' Trust me, some of them were pretty comical. I walk closer to her and she shakes harder. I mean I know I'm scary, but I would never hurt her.
" God this room is freezing, " I mumble, this entire castle is freezing. Crap, if I'm the one with the fur and I'm freezing, then she must be a human popsicle. Going over to the pile of wood and pick up an arm full of wood. When I'm putting the logs onto the fire, I smell something different in the air. There's not a tang of fear in the air anymore. I crouch down to finish up and I hear shuffling behind me and know that the girl moved out of her protective ball. I can feel her eyes on me. But it isn't a fearful stare, merely one of curiosity, and I don't smell her fear that once tainted the air.
As I finish putting the last log onto the fire, which should keep her nice and warm and me in a sweaty mess, I turn around and see her face. Damn, I thought she was pretty before with her broad shoulders and thin waist and curves that would make a model jealous. And that was in the dark, but that doesn't compare to now. Her hair in a tousled mess. Her face is framed by her chin length bangs, that set off her high cheek bones. Her eyes are the color of. . .well. . .their own. T heir blue with a ring of green around the pupil, they're not just one color of blue, oh no, more like all the shades of blue, a fleck here, a fleck there. Some light, some dark. She had this nose that is so cute. If a nose can be cute. There was nothing wrong with her nose, it was mostly straight. But what did it for me was that at the end it turned up ever so slightly. Her lip were blood red and looked so soft.
Her eyes were so big and lined with the thickest eyelashes I have ever seen. A piece of hair fell into her face. I reached out to put it back in place. As I reached out for her I retracted my claws, and she flinched away, almost like a shy animal.
I drew my hand back and stood, I took a step towards her and she moved fast. She was on the other side of the couch in a blink of an eye.
" I won't hurt you." I said quietly, trying to calm her. She looks over her shoulder, ready to flee if I turn away.
"I promise, I will never hurt you. "
Her face was set in fear. I could smell it, more pungent then expensive french perfume. Her eyes wild with it. But she stayed as I walked closer, painstakingly slow. As I got closer she would shake harder, but she stayed where she was. When I got close enough to her I could see that she had freckles splattered across her nose. I sat down next to her, wondering why her father would ever make the bargain that would tear his family apart. What would be so terrifying that he would leave his only daughter with someone like me? I guess karma likes me today, so I'm going to protect this angel from whatever it is that her dad is so afraid of. She shrinks away from me even more. She looks even smaller then before, her legs are pulled into her chest and her chin is resting on her knees. She's shaking so much that I swear that whole damn couch is shaking with her.
I reach out to push her hair out of her face, but she turns away from me. I can see big shiny tears run down her cheeks. "please don't cry" I say, as I capture the tears that are rolling down her soft cheek with my thumb, "I can't stand women crying. I never know what to do. "
