Alice watched the clock as it ticked through the glass. She stared down at her blank piece of paper and sighed. This paper was her only chance to get into her dream college. "Come on Alice think, why do you want to get into Yale." She put down her paper and walked downstairs to get her jacket. "Mom I'm going for a walk!" Alice yelled as she slammed the door behind of her. Being out in nature was one of Alice's favorite things to do when she felt tressed out. When her father was still alive he used to always take her on trails and show her all the different plants and herbs to make people feel better.

The day her mother sat down on the table and told her that her father has died from a car crash all she could think about was how it was all her fault that he died. Alice couldn't bare talking about this that she ran away in the woods and found a little den like cave. Since then Alice has always gone there when she felt like she needed some alone time. Things were hard for Alice nowadays. When her dad died he left his will to his older brother so since they didn't have the $10,000 there dad gave to her uncle they were now broke. Alice and her mom had to sell there house and move into an even smaller house. Alice and her mom had to learn to be a vegetarian so they could stop buying meat and what not.

Alice sat down in the mouth of the cave and sat deep in thought. All of a sudden she saw a shawdow and faint sounds of footsteps. Her heart beated a little faster till she felt it popping out of her chest. The footprints now came closer and closer to her. She began to crawl backwords until she came to the end of the cave. Alice hugged her knees and squeezed her eyes shut. 'This is just a dream.' Alice thought. She opened her eyes when she felt someone tap her shoulder. Alice rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't dreaming. To her amazement right there standing right next to her was her ............. to be continued.        To her amazement right there standing right next to jer was he uncle. "Alice you don't have to be afraid, its me," he said. I wasn't afraid, I was mad. How could he just leave us there when he knew we had financial problems, with dad dying and having my mom to work three jobs. I didn't know if he could see it but I was raging with anger. "How could you," I said. My eyes felt like they were full of tears that were about to burst out any second. "I'm sorry, its-" "How could not have any contact with us when you had $10,000 from your dead brother!" I screamed. He froze, now I felt bad for making him sad so I said, "I'm sorry you probably miss him as much as I do." He just nodded then smiled the gave me a letter. I looked down to abserve the letter in my hands. When I looked back up my uncle was gone. I sighed. For some reason my hands trembled as I tried to open the letter, carefully I unfolded it and read the nice neat words.

           Dear Alice,

I wish you a happy birthday. May all your wishes come true on this magical day. I cant believe my little girl is 18 already. You can drive and go to college and much more. I am buying your cake and present right now, you know it is an important day. Happy Birthday Alice!

                              love your dad

I almost choked out a cry when I finished the note. It was because of me he got in a car crash. I made him die. 'Stop thinking about this Alice' I thought to myself. I folded up the letter and went back home. "Hey mom I saw uncle Steven today-" I looked up and saw my mom and uncle Steven sitting at the small round table in out kitchen.
