~Chapter Twelve - Left For Dead~

By the time I got home, it was seven at night, and I was exhausted. My parents still weren’t home, but Hayley and Ryan were. Hayley had decided not to attend the funeral, due to the fact that she barely knew him, and since Ryan had never met Finn, he wasn’t up for it either.

Instead, when I walked into the living room, they were curled up on the couch together watching some romantic comedy. It was kinda sweet, and I repressed the urge to go, ‘Awww’ at the sight of it.

But seriously they were so cute.

Hayley looked up with a smile when she heard me walk into the room. “Hey, you’re home,” she said, deciding it would be a good idea to point out the blatantly obvious.

“Yeah,” I replied, looking at the screen. “Anything good on?”

“Nothing you’d like,” she told me. “Horror and action are more your movies, right?”

            “You know it.”

“Well, so far there’s been no guns, no knives, no deaths and no villains, so I think it’s safe to say this isn’t your kind of movie.”

I grinned, shaking my head softly. Ryan was a lot like me in the movie-area. Only Hayley could make him watch such a sappy movie. “I guess I’ll be off, then. Night, you two.”

They bid me goodnight, and I walked upstairs and into my room, shutting the door behind me. I turned on my lamp and used my bathroom, performing my nightly routine. I dressed in a pair of pink silk pajamas—classy, I know—and then phoned a call to someone I hadn’t spoken to in ages. Someone who knew everything—the only one.

“Lacey?” the feminine voice asked, high and excited. “Is that you? Man, I thought you’d left me for dead, or something.”

I smiled. “Hey, Cady. Don’t be silly! I’d never leave you for dead. You’re my best friend, remember? Plus, I called you last week!”

“It’s been eight days, Lace. You know I can’t live without Californian drama for eight days.”

Cadency (also known as Cady) Browne had been my best friend since kindergarten. I trusted her with everything—including the fact that I could see ghosts. She was stunning, with curly light brown hair, a smattering of freckles across her nose, an adorable smile, and light blue eyes. She was one of the most trustworthy people in the world, hence why I had told her about the ghost thing. I knew she would never tell a soul about my ability, and I would trust her with my life. She was that kind of girl.

As you could probably tell from her name, Cadence came from a very musical family. Both of her parents were accomplished musicians. Not worldwide names, as such, but definitely known around quite a few countries. It had definitely made her popular in the boy department.
