My mother, Queen Athena, was seated next to my father, King Triton, while I sat on his lap and my six sisters filled the remaining seats. The staff fishes filled our plates with "fine delicacies" and the orchastra played my mother's favorite sympony. As we ate my mother hummed to the tune, my father smiled. I played with my food hoping it would dissolve and my father laughed at my stubborness. When diner ends my father is called to his kingly duties and my sister all swim away until only my mother and I are the only ones left.
"Mommy, I found a something. Do you wanna see?"
"Sure Ariel" my mother answers tickleing me until no laughter came out. I swam to our secret cave, she found it when she was younger and showed it to me when I was old enough to keep a secret. I struggled to push the huge rock until my mother lifted it for me and we swam in through the small opening. I quickly swam toward my new discovery.
"Look mommy, what is it?" I held up a painting with a girl holding a stick with a glowing substance rapidly expanding giving me a strange warmth inside.
"That is fire my dear"
"Fire?"
"Yes, when I was younger I swam close to a ship late at night, which of course you should never do. That is were I first saw fire. Only humans can use it. I gives them heat but is also a tool of destruction. Its beautiful isn't it?"
"Yea, yeah it is. Hey mommy, could you take me to go see it? The Fire? Please?"
"I don't know Ariel, its past your bedtime."
"Pretty, pretty please with some seaweed ontop!" I said while tugging her fin in no clear direction.
"Alright, alright lets go." We swam out of the small tunnel towards the top of our cave and swam to the surface. In the distance was a ship and then several ships followed. My mother held my hand and together we swam to the closest ship. There was a tall man with a crown on his head and handsome boy next to him.
"Mommy, who's that?"
"What? Have you lost all intrest in fire?" my mother giggled.
"No, no, no. I'm just curious."
"Well the bigger man is the king of the human realm above, King Henry and the young man is Prince Eric."
"He's handsome... for a human I mean... Anyways, can I see fire now?"
"Oh Ariel, we have to be patient. When it gets dark the humans will light the fire to give them light." While we waited I looked towards Prince Eric, he had bright blue eyes, black hair, and a heartstopping smile. He wandered away from his father and looked towards to the sea. He pulled out an instrument from his pocket and began to play a familiar sympony. The sympony of my favorite song. How did he know it?
"Mommy, how does he know my song?"
"Some humans pay extra attention to the currents of the ocean and the tune they feel. He felt your sympony through the ocean the same way you did."
"Wow, that's cool... Mommy, look! Fire! Wow!"
"Isn't it marvelous?"
"It is... Didn't you and daddy have the same symphony?"
"We did Ariel. But maybe we could turn him into a merman."
"Really?"
"No Ariel, he's the prince of the land above and you are princess of the vast oceans. That's were you belong."
