Sodapop's POV
It's been three days since the night that was at Louisa's house and I help but to have her on my mind. As I lay in bed contemplating over my life and staring blankly at the ceiling, I noticed warm beams of white light start bursting through the curtain. "I guess it's time for the daily grind." I sighed as my bones creaked when I stretched out my body like an agile cat and walked sluggishly to the bathroom. I stripped down from my pygamas and stepped inside of the tiny shower, my skin tingled as the sensation of warm water completely engulfed me for half an hour. When I finished I brushed my teeth and quickly threw on my DX uniform before making my way down into the kitchen.I was greeted with my younger brother Ponyboy already sitting down eating breakfast while my older brother Darry stood at the stove cooking. He turned around and smiled, "Hey Soda, how'd you sleep?" I gave him a lopsided grin and walked into the kitchen, "It was good but I really have to get goin' I have to open up the DX early today and Steve has the day off." Darry nodded and proceeded to finish the last pancake of his mix and hand the plate to me, "Can't have you goin' to work on an empty stomach." "Thanks Dar." I grinned as I proceeded to eat as much of the pancakes as I can, once I finished I ruffled Ponyboy's hair and made my way out of the house.
Louisa's POV
"If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss." My English teacher, using a very enthusiastic voice, shouted across the room. I had my notebook open, taking down as much notes as I can while also trying to keep up with the complex language of Romeo and Juliet. "Louisa?" My teacher questioned from the front of the room. "Yes mam?" my head shot up as fast as lightning as I realized that everyone's eyes were on me and and that Mrs.Bethel had asked me a question. "Can you explain to me what you think Romeo means by this when he talks to Juliet?" She questioned as she pushed her thin framed frame glasses farther up her nose. I cleared my throat before answering "Well in my opinion, I think that Romeo is comparing Juliet to a holy shrine and he a pilgrim who has touched said shrine and due to his impure hands he wants to smooth his touch with a kiss." "Well done." Mrs. Bethel smiled before abruptly turning towards the class to inform them that class was over. The hallways were ablaze with people as everyone was trying to make their way out. "Hey Louisa" a voice shouted my name amongst the loud chattering in the hallway. I spun around to see my friend from English pushing past people to catch up with me. I stopped walking and waited for her to catch up with me . "Hey girl, that was a real hard question you had to answer in english I don't understand how you get this old English!" Tanya exclaimed with her bright expressive eyes wide in sheer amazement. "It's really not that hard you know, ya' just gotta think about it before you answer."
We continued to walk and talk about school, life and just about anything really as we enjoyed the warm Tulsa afternoon . "I swear to you, I can't stand Ms. Joli she always picking me to answer questions wit' her old ass." Tanya exclaimed with anger. To say that my stomach was hurting from laughter was an understatement, I swear that girl could even make The Grinch chuckle. "Well anyway I really gotta go, my gramma asked me to get some Coke from the store before I go back home so I'll see you later." I sighed before walking a bit further ahead of her so I can catch the gas station coming up. "Ok I'll see you at school on Monday." She waved before we eventually parted ways.
As I approached the gas station I noticed that it seemed pretty empty considering that it was the afternoon. I jogged up to the storefront before opening the door and being greeted by a cool gust of air. As I walked further in the store I could hear the soft crooning voice of Elvis playing lowly throughout the store. I scrunched my nose in disgust as I made my way over to the cooler for the Cokes, I absolutely HATED Elvis, I could never get what he was so popular for. Blocking out his voice, I made my way to the counter with the four bottles of Coke and the money in my pocket. However when I reached the counter I didn't see any one, "Hello?" I shouted into the back, "Is anyone there?" I continued. "Just one sec, I'll be right out." I heard a voice reply. It sounded quite familiar but I would have to see the boy's face before I can be for sure. When he finally did come out, my eyes widened into saucers when I saw who it was. It was mystery boy or rather Sodapop, covered in car oil who looked just as shocked as me.
Sodapop's POV
To say that seeing Louisa here was a surprise was an understatement. She seemed to be just as shocked as I was before I broke the silence "Hi" I smiled before getting behind the register to ring her up. She smiled back at me before she placed the cokes on the counter and handed me the money. As she did that I couldn't help but examine how beautiful she looked today. Her hair was in a nice up-do, her baby blue and white polka dot dress could rival anything the soc girls wear and her beautiful dark skin glowed as the sun hit her when she looked at me. "Are you gonna ring me up or not?" She asked with a hint of mock attitude as she placed her hands on her hips. I blushed lightly before ringing her up, handing her a plastic bag for her Cokes and handed her the change. As she placed the Cokes in the bag, waved goodbye to me and started to walk towards the exit I felt as if my chance to actually be with her was fading fast. So I did what any other idiot would do in my position. I blurted out "Do you want to go on a date with me?"Louisa's POV
I stopped in my tracks before turning around to face the blue eyed angel who kissed me in my bedroom three nights ago. "Pardon?" I inquired because I was sure I didn't hear him properly. "Would you like to go on a date with me?" He repeated himself a bit more clearly as he stood a bit taller and looked directly at me. My heartbeat was through the roof then as he kept his intense gaze on me. "I don't really thinks that's a good idea." I muttered as I stared down at the floor. "Why not?" He asked in a disappointed tone. I tilted my head up in mock confusion before I answered " I don't know if you noticed but I'm black." I said as I gestured to my skin. "And you're white" I said as I grabbed his hand. "Tulsa is a very racist place and I wouldn't want for any of us to get hurt." I said sincerely while still gently squeezing his hand. He ran a hand through his greased back hair unknowingly before saying "But we don't have to go out anywhere, I could just pick you up and we could drive around." "What if someone sees us?" I reasoned before reluctantly pulling my hand out of his with a tug. "I promise to you that no one will see us I just really wanna be with you wad'ya say?" He grinned as a deep dimple formed on his cheek. I tried not to smile but failed quickly "Ok but we better not get caught." I caught him off guard with a kiss on his cheek before finally leaving the station and urging myself to turn around only to see a big grin on his face.A.N: Hi guys!!!!
