Chapter 1

It had never occurred to her that moving to another city may be a bad idea, aspecially a city where you didn’t know anyone and had nothing to look forward to. Ailecia (pronounced Ileecia) stood there watching the cars speed by and the many people walking on the sidewalk. This was definitely going to be something that she would never forget. Her plan was to leave home so that she would never have to return but she didnt plan on being some place she knew nothing about and knew no one in it. She slowly stepped off the sidewalk into the now empty street and made her way to the other side. The first place she wanted to visit was the library. It seemed like a place where she could use the internet and read a good book until it became dark.

She walked into the library expecting it to be rather deserted but instead people seemed to have had the same idea she did. Each table held a person or two reading until their heart was content. There was no sound in the library so when she walked through the door and allowed it to slam causing heads to turn in her direction. A shy smile appeared on her face as she gave her apology and headed down the isle of the non-fiction section. She needed something to take her away from the world right now. A story that could make her forget that she had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. She ran her fingers along book after book reading each title until she found one that she felt might help her to forget life.

As she turned to find a seat she ran into someone.

“Damn,” she cried out. She had never really been good with balance so of course she fell all the way backwards sending her legs shooting into the air revealing her rather girly underwear. She wasted no time to see who she had ran into only scurried to her feet and walked in the opposite direction of the snickering she now heard behind her. She quickly got a seat and opened the book entitle, “The Twinkling Moon”.

Her mind raced as she followed through the chapters of the book. She felt as if she was the young girl running through the woods towards the twinkling moon to reach the only ancestor she knew, only to fall short as the sun rose. Tears began to form in her eyes as the young girl became weak as vulnerable to her enemies because of the lack of love in her life. Ailecia sat there with the book drooping in her lap tears forming in her eyes. She completely understood how the young girl felt and yet they were in completely different situations. The lack of love was there but her lack was because of unfortunate events where as Ailecia’s lack was because of pure blatant neglect. Her mother had decided that she was too much to handle so in response to not wanting her in the house she would no longer care for her.  Coming home to an empty house would have been better then coming home to a house full of people and still feeling alone. She closed the book laying her head in her hands and silently wept.

The light tap on her shoulder went ignored until someone cleared their throat. Ailecia wiped her eyes and turned to see a man standing behind her with a worried expression on his face. She tried to force a smile but instead gave a weak smirk.

“It was very quiet in here until you and your crying entered into the library,” he said without a smile.

Ailecia took no time in grabbing her things and walking around him to the door. As she walked she silently let her middle finger say her response for her, allowing the door to slam loudly. How dare he come to her as if she was wailing in the library, she had only whimpered slightly at the thought of her horrible life.

She walked across the street without bothering to look either way, letting the horns honk at her. She didn’t really care about what these people were saying she just wanted to keep walking until her feet started to bleed.
